To help clear up confusion over these alleged 'goodies' subscribers to PlayStation Plus get, Sony has sprawled out in detail what we can expect.
Those who sign up between June 29th and August 3rd for 1 year's subscription will get a free digital copy of LittleBigPlanet - not tied to PS Plus.
PlayStation Plus is the new PSN premium service that Sony unveiled during their E3 2010 press conference. It officially launches June 29th for all the PS3s out in the world. All current PlayStation Network services, like multiplayer, will remain completely free.
Included in the launch of PS Plus, posts the , will be:
- Exclusive items on PlayStation Store
- Full Game Trial
- Automatic Downloads
You can buy a subscription package to Plus through the PlayStation Store on PS3 for either 90 days or a whole year. It's a one off fee for either choice and can be bought via credit card or PSN Cards just like any other Store purchase.
If you opt for a full year between June 29th and August 3rd then you'll get a digital copy of LittleBigPlanet given to you for free, and it won't be tied to your PlayStation Plus subscription status either - it will be yours forever regardless.
"As a member you can expect to get your hands on at least 4 games a month at no extra charge. Each month there will be a selection of 1x PSN game, 2x minis and 1x PS One classics," announces Sony. "You will be able to download these games during the month they are available, until the new selection replaces these."
"Once downloaded, these games are yours to keep and play as long as you are a member of PlayStation Plus. If your subscription lapses and then you re-subscribe the games you have already downloaded will reactivate, so you still have access to them."
Should you delete one of your freebies and it isn't listed anymore through PlayStation Plus, don't panic, because you need only find it through the PlayStation Store and it will be available to you for download at no cost whatsoever.
"Each month there will be 2 dynamic themes, 2 premium avatars and premium game elements/add-ons for you to download and many of these will be exclusive to members only. These are yours to keep forever once you have downloaded them," they add.
"Plus members will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% – 50% and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever." Only game freebies are sensitive to a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Already it has been confirmed that PS Plus as Sony appear to be still deciding how they want to approach it. "Each month we will be offering members the chance to download 2 full games, try them out for a period of time (1 hour unless otherwise stated). Then you will have the choice to either buy the game and carry on from where you left off, or delete the game from your hard drive," Sony continue.
"The games in full game trail will become available to all Store users to purchase but only Plus members will have the chance to ‘try before you buy’." The added bonus is that when you opt to buy the game you can continue where you left yourself in the trial.
So what do you think, videogamer? Is PlayStation Plus a great idea from Sony?
