Kotick teases Blizzard's new IP MMO

Activision super boss Bobby Kotick reminds us at their Q2 fiscal talk that Blizzard's new MMO in the works is an "entirely new" game universe.

It's one of "two enormous investments" by the publisher, with the other being Bungie's new IP. The new MMO first got mentioned publically in 2007.

"Remember, we have two enormous investments," said CEO Kotick. "One in Bungie and the other in another project at Blizzard that we haven't given a lot of visibility to. Those are going to be entirely new intellectual properties."

"But with the recognition that the way to build them is take long amounts of time, lots of capable talent, an enormous amount of capital and you have to have a real roadmap for innovation and creativity. And I think that those are going to be two very good examples from the ground up original ideas."

It was thought at first that the new MMO would be based on StarCraft but it later emerged Blizzard was cooking up a whole new IP, as they didn't want to canibalise the huge success of their MMO flagship World of Warcraft. Will it be Craft-ed?

I wonder what kind of MMO they could produce that doesnt "canibalise the huge success of their MMO flagship World of Warcraft"...
For me it looks like ANY good MMO would do just that by just beeing an MMO...

o and i also though that It would be World of Starcraft , because of a Inside Source ... It seems that it may not be so true anymore . but i saw Pics of WOrld of starcraft ! i Remember what i saw .. maybe they cancelled it ?!?!

anyways that doesnt leave alot of Options for a new MMO ... i guess we just wait and find out

Wolrd of starcraft would be realy nice to play. imagine running around as a firebat frying those zergs... :)
Maybe the pics were fanmade or part of a distraction effort by Blizzard to keep their real project hidden ;)

The amount of money blizzard have available to spend is ludicrous. The number of expensive titles they have ongoing at one time is amazing.

Ah, Starcraft Ghost would be nice. Just recently read the book "Nova" which is somewhat linked to the game.
Ghost are like old day Assassins but cooler and with more gimmicks :)

but They said Starcraft 2 Will have some story elements of Ghost meaning SHE HAD to show up eventually . i wasnt expecting it though.

First off, if it was going to be World of Starcraft, it would need a better name, since starcraft evolves in space.

Id rather call it 'Starcraft Universe'.
now that has a ring to it.

those pics you're talking about was probably those of the april fools pics IGN or someone made.

as far as ive heard previously, yes its a new IP,
and its going to be an FPS mmo.

I was surprised aswell when i heard it,(think it was when they first talked bout it ) since fps mmo's havent been very succuessfull in the past.

Montai .... i Saw real Genuine Pics ... i got a friend Who's Uncle works in Blizzard and he knows alot of people in the gaming industry .... he Showed me Devil may cry 4's Cover before the game was announced .

well they might be testing new waters since its a new ip. theyve got 3 succuessfull strategy RPG franchises. diablo,warcraft,starcraft.

so they obviously wanna add a total different thing to the mix maybe? dominate some FPS market? ok more MMO market, but it would breach out to future idea's.
i dont know, i could possibly be wrong.

although i was dearly hoping for a starcraft mmo coz it would have been amaaaazing.

BoneArc so you saw in-game pics and are totally sure it was starcraft? maybe it was concept designs?

I think the concept art might have been some frauds...

They could get into some FPS developments thanks to Activision, chances of combining dev teams in order to perfect a genre. My eyes are open on this one :)

1st : The pic Was GENUINE , i saw a Marine Fighting a hydralisk While his party members Were Firebats or Something with a flamethrower killing Zerg !
The pics were real man , It was Like The World of warcraft Sort of HUD but it Was different , not a photoshop Shit .
graphics were Different and all . IT WAS 100 % GENUINE .

and did you guys know that Starcraft Ghost was originaly designed to have a multiplayer where you had CLasses , like MARINES , GHOSTS , MEDICS and more.

read it up . man if it was an FPS that would look so cool ...

imagine a Starcraft FPS , where Hydralisks are everywhere and you and your squad gota Fight back all those zerg and get to a Room , plant a C4 And Get the hell out of there .

I wonder how much the game will kill of WoW, if WoW doesn't kill of their new game that is. XD There's gonna be some intense competition between the 2 games. ^^ Should be fun. XD

Maybe if the games were of different genre there would be absolutely no competition between the two. I mean why would a game company burry it's most successful game that is earning them millions of dollars a month thanx to monthly subscription fees?

And Gyorn , It didnt have the same Comiclook as WoW . It was more of a Cinematic Style Version like the Warcraft 3 Cinematics .

Was well made but it was probably in Alpha Stage.

4 years is a long time... that information is as good as dead now. I like the comic style WoW has, so there is nothing wrong with an other MMO with similar styling.

Why does every one like that style? I think its rather childish :/
After all its a world full of war, hatred, battles and death. How could it possibly be all nice and shiny?
Just doesnt match the game and thus destroys the feeling if you ask me.

Artistic view is something that is pretty much up to the designers. Check out Borderlands - a very great game with a very serious theme - made in cell shading graphics - looking thus like a comic book.
Or, take a look at Team Fortress 2. A serious game, main target for the professional gamer, but looking like a game made for a 10 year old :)

Im sure there are people liking that style, but i aint one of them.
I however like comic style on bloody games when its used as a kind of joke. Didnt play it but a good example seems to be fairytale fights :)

Yeah. Some fairytales are not really made for kids ya know :D Still kids should learn about violence that way, rather than seeing their dad come drunk late at night and beat them up o.O

I dont object to fairytales either. Kinds dont mind the violence and i doubt they get influenced too much by it.

Well I totally agree. You would have made a great defendant on court, when someone accuses a gaming company of content resulting in violence. If someone played a sick game, and then later killed his friend, its just his sick mind that made him do it - not the game lol
