Call of Duty "offset" Singularity

Raven's Singularity "fell short" of the "exceptionally high bar" for the shooter genre, luckily Call of Duty picked up the slack, it 'set the bar' after all.

Bizarre's racer Blur was "not able to break out" either but it did break "new ground" in terms of features defends Activision; a "significant investment".

"Singularity fell short of meeting what is an exceptionally high bar within the shooter genre," said CFO Thomas Tippl during the Q2 fiscal. "Fortunately, Call of Duty was the title that raised that bar and shortfall of Singularity was offset by Call of Duty's catalogue and DLC performance."

"Additionally, Blur was not able to break out in what turned out to be a relatively soft racing genre despite the number of high-quality releases." Blur sold only 31k copies in the US in May, but was only on sale for just 5 days. Activision doesn’t regret Blur.

"Importantly, the game broke new ground in creating innovative, social and multiplayer features - including functionality - enables our unique online and back-end platforms that will play an increasing role in driving value in the future," said Tippl.

"We have made a very significant investment behind the establishment of Blur as a new IP," he said. "So I think the marketing plan was very strong, probably stronger than for most of our franchises. Unfortunately, the racing genre was not particularly responsive, at least so far this year, despite the number of good releases."

"On Singularity, the bar in the shooter genre these days is very high. I think we made the right size investment against this opportunity, and that's how we expect to continue to look at the amount of marketing support we put behind all of our launches."

I can't really compare Singularity to Call of Duty. Maybe Bioshock? It did remind me of that game almost the whole time. But Singularity is one of the best FPSs I played this year. No kidding.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Call of Duty. Trust me, more like TimeShift/Bioshock. Yeah, those are the hotswapped genes :)

Dude, do you realize how bad CAPS LOCK letters look in the comment section. Yeah I get it now...

There is an edit comment option so it's not hard to fix a typo...

Dude, stop posting meaningless comments just to get your post count up for the competition. As Wowerine said, use the edit button.

Blur wasn't that interesting to me, seemed like it was the same thing as other racing games. A few new stuff ofc but nothing really groundbreaking that could get me to buy the game. Unless a new racing game comes out with really innovative and groundbreaking stuff I'm fine with my old racing games.

JustCommunication mentioned several times that this is not about postcount so i doubt double posts will have any effect on the outcome. Relax ;)

What kind of innovative and groundbreaking stuff is on your mind Arrecoolast? Cause i cant realy imagine what could be done except maybe mixing some of the genres like e.g. adding a skilltree for your driver.
However i would like to see the return of weapon mounted cars. Those are awesome in multiplayer :)

There is no place for inovation in this genre. The last good thing introduced was way back when NFS Most Wanted was released, and they introduced their version of Bullet Time - slowing down time to nail those tight corners.

And that is what Blur and Split/Second were all about. Anyway what do car games have to do with this topic anyway? xD

Hmm I'm surprised about my own words right now, lulz, writing when you're almost asleep in your chair yeilds some interesting results. ^^ I dunno why I mixed in racing, but I think what I actually meant to say was that I haven't really seen anything REALLY innovative and groundbreaking lately in any genre. It all seems to have been used sometime before. I can't really say what new stuff I would want to see cause I'm not a very creative person tbh but I haven't felt like any new game has brought anything that really makes me go WOW in the latest years. :/

@Arrecoolast , I dont just post to get my post count up. and my comment had meaning while we were still 2 people in a coversation , but then again this is a NEWS topic .

i played Blur on a friend's Computer and i didn't really like it. it was just like Split/Second but you had to get those shiny little icons for a weapon ( like all the old racing games with guns )
So it wasn't really my kind of game

Did anyone her even play Singularity? Because thats what this topic is all about right? Everyone started talking about racing games that use bullet time suddenly. LOL

I dont even have a clue what its about Wowerine ;)
Anyone care to explain what that game is? :D

Well. If someone here played Bioshock... Almost the same plot with small changes. You land on an island that belonged to the Russians. You get to travel to the past by accident. Then you have to make it all right. As for enemies there are mutants and soldiers, weapons are similar to the ones in Bioshock, and you have special powers - similar to Bioshock again.

I'm I just talking for no one here or have you guys at least played Bioshock?
By Gyorn (SI Core) on Aug 08, 2010

Well, a bit ;)
I dont like games in dark and limited spaces thus i never played the full game.
What did the russians fuck up (why always them? ^^) to create mutants? O_o

They manipulated with some new element - stronger than any radioactive element out there. They turned back time and things like that - bombs. People got dipped into the stuff and started mutating, so did creatures.

I so wana get dipped in Electro/radioactive Stuff . wonder what would happen , but its prolly fiction for me .

this game is just a World war Rip Off of Bioshock i guess .
By Gyorn (SI Core) on Aug 08, 2010
Gyorn
BoneArc, you would die an agonising death with the speed depending on how strong the radiation is ;)

I wouldn't call it a rip off BoneArc - you didn't play the game so you can talk crap about it. I suggest you play it trough the end and then come back here ;)
