Battle.net 'reduces piracy incentives' says Blizzard, robust online

Blizzard has been able to "work well around" the piracy issue for World of Warcraft, and they are "able to do the same" with StarCraft II they feel.

The Battle.net integration gives "better continuity" for users, and a "stronger way to participate" in the Blizz community. It has 14 languages.

"For World of Warcraft we have been able to work well around the piracy issue and we think we’ll be able to do the same with StarCraft II,” said VP and executive managing director for Blizzard’s international operations, Michael Ryder.

"The Battle.net solution provides several things. It provides better continuity for the players and it gives them a stronger way to participate in an overall Blizzard community." They dropped the Real ID feature of using real names in place of an alias.

“But what also goes hand-in-hand with the Battle.net solution is that we work really hard to offer a tailored, regional business model, so it reduces the incentives to go to a pirated solution.” Battle.net is fully localised to 14 different regions.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has sold gangbusters and continues to do so. It's got a damn good reason to be on fire in the charts - check out our review for why that's so.

How dare you people steal such an amazing game! If you liked the game so much why not buy it and play legally!? This is absurd.

That is why I like online purchases that allow me to download the game and play it right away - like Steam or other services. That is what i find great about them. Of course nothing can stand up to something you can actually touch, like the box of the collectors edition game with all the goodies :)

Collector's Edition is overpriced for what it offers, the only nice thing is the 2GB USB memory stick and The Art of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty.

Wow 2GB only? I got a 32GB usb stick like a year ago, so they should have bumped that one up a bit more...

Apparently it contains save-games from Starcraf and Starcraft:Broodwar.

What the?
32GB on a stick? How much did you pay for that Wowerine? And whats your secret to having that much money?
By Wowerine (SI Elite) on Aug 11, 2010
Wowerine
I payed like $70. There is no secret. I get a lot money monthly from my collage (like $150) that I don't have to spend at all. + I do some hacking, unlocking phones and installing OS and other software for people who don't know how to do it, and I fix broken PCs... I can get even more than $1k per month sometimes...

They had an open beta to test, easy to get keys for it. No excuses for piracy, but piracy don't excuse consumer unfriendly technology. Starcraft 2 does Ok, it is not great since you can't play offline with your account, and you are very limited in choices - but don't kid yourselves, this is first and foremost a mp game so the mp players won't mind at all anyway. The sports campaign is good, real good but I lack a mission where I can build up an all-out Terran base/army.

I'm glad about them fighting piracy - it just isn't fair to people who actually bought the game to play with those tards that grabbed the game for free from some torrent. They can't get enough by just playing singleplayer so they want to attack the MP waters. No sir!

Well as opposed to piracy as I am, Blizzard had better be more attentive to their gaming audience. I live in a Capital city and every (and I mean EVERY) retail store is sold out for 4-6 weeks (Blizzard don't have the stock). Never a good thing when gamers want the game badly enough to resort to the lowest of the low.
Blizz knew this would be big, so no excuses.

You are right. You almost can't get any Blizzard games in retail shops, they burn out real soon. Especially WoW games and bundles...
