Russian developer GSC Game World has "officially" announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to be in development and due out 2012 for PC and consoles.

Exactly what consoles it will appear on aren't mentioned. GSC say there are "no doubts left" for the series as it 'exceeds' 4m copies worldwide.

"After the official sales of the series exceeded 4 million copies worldwide, we had no doubts left to start creating a new big game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. This will be the next chapter of the mega-popular game players expect from us," said Sergiy Grygorovych, CEO of GSC Game World. They've pegged it for a 2012 window.

All we know is that it will be a multi-platform release with actual game details not being discussed by the development studio yet. We do know that this multi-platform project is built on "completely new" tech from the GSC team.

Yeah. We are loosing an other great exclusive to the consoles. Good, at least we can say goodbye to bugs. I'm sick of the X-Ray engine being updated all the time. I want a new engine to run this game! It deserves better than that. I want them epic games to stay epic :)

You will want to play Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat after you finish that one. Check SI mods sections for some insane mods dude. I always used them when I played STALKER games. Over and over again. SoC has at least 2 endings (I got so many). I played the other two STALKER games only once so I don't know how many endings those have :)
