Beyond Good & Evil 2 still hard at work, need "little bit of patience"

Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot assures us from gamescom that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still getting worked over, and they aim for it to be "perfect".

The original was "very well appreciated" by those who played it but sales were a disappointment. After a while it was "very recognized".

"We were, as we are, working on the game," said Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot at gamescom. "What is very import with this next product is that it will be perfect." Michael Ancel's "intention is to come with something really exciting. But everybody needs a little bit of patience."

The original game was well received critically but didn't pick up in sales all that well. "I would say the game was very well appreciated by the people who played it," Guillemot said. "But we didn't have enough people when it was launched. After its time it become a very recognized product." It was down to pushing concepts people didn't expect he says.

"It's in our DNA to do innovative stuff because that's how the company was become what it is," continued Guillemot. You could insert a wise-crack about their PC DRM here if you wanted, but we won't because were too mature.

"The first Assassin's Creed was very innovative, but as with most innovation everything was not perfect. But then with the second game you go one step forward. You have to be able to start and come up with something that will be different first."

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been a long time coming - are you a fan of this underappreciated creation from Ubisoft? It's being developed with as few staff as possible to apparently maximise the creativity of the project.

This is starting to become the new Duke Nukem Forever - Its taking forever to release the game. How irresponsible are dev teams these days. I wonder what got into them, everyone is so lazy...
