Valve see PS3 as "incredibly important" now, wish to 'make amends'

During gamescom Valve's Erik Johnson has expressed his studio's sincerity in loving the PlayStation 3 console now, wishing to make up for mistakes.

They "don't feel" PS3 users have had the true "Valve experience" but can now thanks to Steam arriving on it. This will help them "fix everything wrong".

"PS3 is incredibly important to us," said project manager Erik Johnson. "We don't feel that the PS3 users had the Valve experience that we like to deliver." Past Valve games have reached PS3 but weren't handled by in-house teams but instead past off to EA.

"So it that case it's incredibly important to us; we kind of fix everything wrong in the products that we delivered before for the PS3, which we thought were good but weren't quite the Valve experience," continued the Valve boss.

"We're looking forward to solving that and having Steam on that platform also is incredibly valuable to us," said Johnson, referring to PS3 Orange Box.

"In a lot of ways that is the way we define a customer having a good experience because it's the way that we keep talking to that customer over time." Valve's sudden outpouring of affection for PS3 took many by surprise - Portal 2 will hit the platform next year.

Yeah Valve? How about hurrying up with H-L2: Ep 3? We have been waiting for that one more than we should. And H-L 3 would be nice too. Portal never felt like a full game, and we want to do some serious gaming.
How is that Black Mesa project working out for you?

What are you talking about they are awesome! They made Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Steam and so on! They are in history of gaming.
Valve keeps updating TF2 for 3 years with big updates , they done aprox. 150 updates for tf2 untill now. That says alot about their care for the fans!

@ BoneArc, do you have steam? In that case, send me a message so I can add you. I think I have for example an extra hl2 if you don't have it already...
Valve better start working on new titles and less consoles IMO. We need a computer first developer out there.

PS3 or XBox360. I buy games from Valve only on PC. And this will not change.

I bought most of my games from Steam - H-L2 - ep1, ep2, Portal, TF2, MW2 etc... Since Valve guys made Steam, they made it for their own games at first. Can't see how you can say that Valve is a lost cause for you BoneArc. Even if they stopped making games (which I hope will never happen) they would make money by selling other games.

Alright, no problems BoneArc. Anyone else here haven't played Hl2, I have indeed an extra copy - just send me a message :)
P.S Steam is a great service, I have been hooked ever since Counter Strike came, haven't used it that much but since online games have exploded and many games still requires Steam, I make sure my online option is Steam - no other (Except the few times you didn't know that GFWL was none-optional...)

Steam is the best game manager ever, as for Valve is working very hard on all they're releases the even updated Counter Strike: Source to the orange box engine, its good that they make updates to TF2 but they're starting to ignore the real reason why they had so much success Half Life, to bad.

Am I the only one that doesn't like steam? :P Offline mode doesn't work unless you activate it, it doesn't automatically turn on when their servers are down or your internet is not working. Atleast not for me.(Yes it saves my pass and such which is needed for offline mode)

Steam is also constantly bugging out and hogging resources, it's slow too. I'll always think it's funny how xfire ingame starts up faster than steam ingame IN STEAM GAMES. Sometimes steam ingame doesn't even work, I'm not talking about some games that aren't valve made that it might not be compatible with, I'm talking about steam games made by valve where it sometimes does not launch forcing you to restart the entire game if you want ingame communication with steam. It's ridiculous.

It's not ALL bad though, it's nice how easy it is to get a demo and such to try out and how you can easily install a game bought through steam on any computer running your steam account. The bad weigh out the good though IMO so I prefer my games without steam. That's just me though. ^^

I didn't have a Steam account for all these years, but I decided to make one recently, and I haven't regret it. It's an incredible service with great user support, with many important things for one active gamer. This announcement neither surprises me, nor pleases me, because the console gaming is so distant to me. I wish that Valve remains on the PC platform for a long time, because of us PC gamers that are the true fans of the Valve games. I will never forget the Half Life, which was one of the best games I've ever played, together with all of the expansion packs for HL-1 and later, HL-2.

I can run my Single player games on Steam in offline mode (which is rarely since my modem is turned on 24/7). But the achievements don't work - which is expected ofc.
PS3 does have a lot potential - because of the firepower that it has over X360. And the media that are bigger - BluRay is 25GB last time I was checking.

Btw, don't forget that PlayStation is the sponsor of many important football championships, one of them being UEFA champions league ;) That's where they get many of their costumers.
By Wowerine (SI Elite) on Aug 23, 2010

I don't think that has anything to do with Valve wanting to develop for them. What needs to be recognized is the potential the gaming console has - hardware, an sales. Most important thing.
By BoneArc (SI Elite) on Aug 23, 2010
BoneArc
i agree with that Wowerine , If they can Get the same sales from their Console games as The other PS3 Titles , that would skyrocket them With a lot of cash .

Not running away ;)
It's just a pain to text on my HTC so I'm only online very briefly every time I'm on my phone.
One good thing with STEAM is the free games. Hl2 owners get Hl2 MP deathmatch for free. Toilette gravgun bonanza :D
Also you get Alien Swarm - a co-op up to 4 player top down shooter that is fun.
Mods, well Zombie panic is nice, Insurgence, Synergy and the hilarious Pirates, Vikings and Knights for just a few.
