New C&C in the works at Visceral?

EA Games general manager Nick Earl reveals that a "pretty far out" new Command & Conquer title is in the works, and it's possibly under Visceral.

Earl oversees EA's "action and strategy" group with Visceral Games now a full label, encompassing all their third-person action game projects.

Does this mean then that the new C&C is also being handled by a Visceral Games development team? The last instalment in the series was already 'far out' as it ditched the series traditional and iconic base building for more 'on-the-go' tactics.

Tiberian Twilight wrapped up the Tiberian saga of the C&C universe, leaving Red Alert to be exploited in the RTS space. However EA had already planned a major action shooter called Tiberium but it got canned. Is this new project a revival of that?

Until EA are more forthcoming the C&C community can only speculate if it will be another strategy game or indeed something in the action genre - Kane Kart anyone?

Finnally, I was wondering if piece of news would ever come out. I can't wait to see more, especially since the last installment disappointed me terribly.

After the appalling "Tiberian Twilight" I have no hopes for the franchise. This would have to be something very special to drag many fans back to the C&C table.

@ eloqui. Yeah, but they're last game was a reboot of the Tiberian line of the CnC games, so I don't think that they will reboot the Tiberian series again any time soon.

@ Herodutus. Maybe they will do somthing special with the next one, like making it along the lines of the game Tiberium. Unfortunately they canceled that game due to quality concerns (sigh). Would have been a good game from the stuff that I saw of it.

They should give up and do something new. I don't really want a new C&C. I want to see something new on RTS shelves.

No, they don't need to give up on the CnC series, but refine it more. The quality of CnC 4 totally sucked. Having played all of the CnC tiberian games (for that matter all of the CnC games as well) I can say that Cnc 4 is a definite step backwards from other CnC games such as CnC 3. Also CnC 4 uses the Red Alert 3 version of the SAGE game engine, which is another reason it is a step back.

Sorry but I would really like to see something new from then rather then a new C&C. Might just be me but...

Well everybody is entitled to their opinions, you have yours and I have mine. But I still say that they need to put more time and effort in the games to ensure that they release a game that people will want to buy and play.

Too bad EA ruined C&C with Tiberian Twilight, but I hope this time they make a game that is truly worthy of a C&C title.

Yeah, if they make it right, I'll still play it :)

Hopefully so.
