Capcom intended for "knee-jerk reaction" over Dante's new look

Those crafty Capcom bigwigs knew fans of Devil May Cry would be baited into getting all hot under the collar over Ninja Theory's Dante makeover.

All the "discussion and dialogue" skyrocketed the "visibility of the title" versus same old Dante. This is an origin story of before we knew the guy.

"The original concepts that came back for Dante were actually extremely close to the Dante everyone knows and loves," said Capcom's Christian Svensson. Keiji Inafune and Hideaki Itsuno wanted something more radical and creative from Ninja Theory.

"And literally dozens of potential iterations later became what we as a team felt comfortable and actually happy with." They fully expected a fan backlash for changing the series iconic character so dramatically, but that was part of the master plan.

"I will argue that any changes will bring about a knee-jerk reaction from fans," said Svensson. "We know that; we knew that going into it. To be fair, I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante." There's no going back.

"This is meant to be an origin story, so this is Dante before you knew who Dante was," he explained. "There is going to be some interesting changes and twists to what people think they know about Dante or where he came from. We aren't planning on deviating greatly from the path that is there." Ninja Theory created Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

"There may still be some tweaks here or there - I'm not privy to what's going on - but by and large that will be the direction the team is going down." Devil May Cry releases on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the future as no date has been issued. Did you knee-jerk?

Usually i don't like that many changes in games that I like this is one of them, they can explore Dante past as much as they want but he doesn't even look the same person anymore they say this is before he become the Devil Slayer that we all know, it doesn't look all that great so far, but i will given them a little credit and wait for final product to make my final appreciation.
