Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sells "more than double" of original

EA announced at their latest earnings call that DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has now sold "almost 6 million units," which easily beats the original.

They're chuffed it enjoys a metascore of 89 and that it's become a new "stand-alone franchise" for EA to feast on. A Vietnam expansion is due out.

"On the spring, we released Battlefield: Bad Company 2, with a Metacritic index of 89," said EA COO John Schappert. "Today, Bad Company 2 is sold through almost 6 million units, more than double the sales of the original."

"Congratulations to the team at our DICE Studio in Stockholm for turning Battlefield: Bad Company into a new stand-alone franchise for EA." Most recently DICE developed Medal of Honor's multiplayer component, where EA LA handled the singleplayer.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC unlike the first game which only launched on the consoles. A multiplayer expansion for Bad Company 2 called Vietnam releases this holiday for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC - see the trailer below.

Well Bad Company didn't come out on PC so they shouldn't pat themselves on the back too much!

Yep, I picked up a copy of this on the PC. Played the PS3 multi beta but haven't had the time to try the multi on PC, though I did play through the single player campaign. It was decent!

I can't allways play the MP because sometimes I get connexion errors, I also have to play with everything on low and lower than my native res or my machine just freezes 3-5 minutes in, and even then I'm not sure I could play more than 2h in one sitting (though I guess that's decent but I want to be able to play all I want when I want!)

Make hay while the sun shines DICE. "CoD: Black Ops" is going to steal your thunder ("MoH" MP will probably wither on the vine and I don't have high hopes for "BF: BC2 Vietnam).

I agree with that Hero. As far as I am concerned, the Call of Duty series will always be more profitible that the BF series.

Hey Kres, many BF gamers who've MoH have noew stgated they will not but BF 3....many gamers.
While I'm having fun with MoH (it really feels like you're fighting in Afghanistan and not some abstract desert map). CoD, however is where all the fun is, you girly-skirt.

Well just always disliked the absolute lack of tactics and team play in CoD titles. And lack of vehicles. Other then that, everything is great. But that's an important thing for me.

MoH that good? How about MP? I've decided to totally avoid MoH for whatever reason. Just skipped it.

I don't get how BF gamers turned their back on BF3 due to MoH. I'll need to look more into it.

CoD is just non-stop shooting...not exactly much of tactics or team play involved (in my opinion) when compared to BF. Especially the Cod MW felt sort of like an arcade game...

I agree about "CoD". That's why I prefer Free-For-All or Objective (Plant-the-bomb).
That's what I like about "MoH" MP. As part of a team you push forward through objectives, and if you try to go lone wolf...you're dead. When you play as the Taliban (sorry...OPFOR) it's the same when you are defending - you're part of a team. The roles swap of course. There are only four modes at present, unless you buy the DLC which few are doing and that is what is going to limit and ultimately kill the game. That and the hackers:(

"BF: BC2" is also getting new DLC in the form of Map Pack 7 (with Oasis and Harvest Day from "BF: BC"). Will cost $15 for non-VIP members, but free for PC - YAY! There will also be two new environments from Bad Company 2's single-player: Cold War and Heavy Metal.

Wow so MoH has actual good team play?!

Man, I'm on WLAN and can't do any serious online gaming until my phone line is plugged in at this new place I moved. Which is about 20-30 days away. I played all online tower defense games I could find. Probably literally every single one.

[EDIT] I've just checked a MoH MP trailer and it looks really good! The only thing worrying me are sort of lower scores from critics. Mhmm

Don't compare it with "BF:BC2" or "CoD" and see it for what it is. A representation of the war in Afghanistan and you'll have a good time (not that the real deal is fun). As for the scores. Hell, if they can score "Guitar Hero" with a 9.0 then you have to wonder.

I'm going to check that out once I get plugged into the internet with a cable. Sounds like it's worth checking out. So MP is good? Not too interested in SP I guess.

And yeah Guitar Hero gets best scores. Makes me feel awkward. But I guess people like it. Didn't tried any of those and there are high chances I never will. Really high chances.
