Activision confirm Call of Duty 5 with "a new military theatre" in 2009

They released the announcement during a conference call, where they were happily posting their financial results.

No news whether Infinity Ward or Treyarch are handling the game but the latter is working on the new James Bond game, which will use the COD4 engine.

"We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theatre, to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise," said CEO Mike Griffith.

Call of Duty 5 will release on PC, Xbox360, PS3 and DS much like Modern Warfare has but it will also expand to cover the Wii and PS2 platforms. There has been no mention of a more precise release date, but the James Bond Quantum of Solace game will be out this autumn alongside the movie.

avatar Call of Duty 5? Jeez, well it's a great serie, but change the name somehow... Kind of have a feeling like I bought 5th pair of my best shoes. It just kind of feels awkward?

avatar My money's on the Pacifc Theatre of Operations if based on WWII - shame as I thought Korea or even Viet Nam might have been better. Still, if they aren't going to fiddle with gameplay and the Engine then a simple WWII shift makes sense.
