Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition for XBLA, release next year in spring

The PC brawler powered by Valve's Source engine will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade in its 'Ultimate' form from developer ACE Team. It comes with new stuff and improvements.

New features, gameplay modes, and even fan-suggested improvements have made it into this XBLA title release coming next spring. One new addition is a co-op Tower Challenge mode.

A huge swathe of changes have arrived for Ironclad Games' space strategy Sins of a Solar Empire, with all units getting a tweak and some even an outright overhaul.

Logging into Stardock's Impulse will get you the mega patch. It's really surprised the developers how strategies "have evolved" over the one and half years the game has been out.

Blu-ray not firmware "issue", Home gets universal game launching

Sony has said the recent report from users of Blu-ray trouble, like unreadable discs or game freezes, is not "an issue with the firmware". Users blame 3.01 for causing trouble.

Meanwhile Home now has 'Universal Game Launching' added with the release of v1.3. This means that certain supported titles can launch, and includes multiplayer options in Home.

Energy drink promo reveals Modern Warfare 2 map packs in spring

Yes that's right, an energy drink promotion between Monster Energy Drinks and Infinity Ward reveals that multiplayer map packs will arrive for Modern Warfare 2 in spring 2010.

Modern Warfare 2 themed boxes of the drink promises a load of prizes, including 100 free copies of the game to give away, 5,000 map pack codes and 10,000 dashboard themes.

Hydrophobia resurfaces as episodic, split into 3 pieces for XBLA

Dark Energy Digital's water-based Hydrophobia has become an episodic title which plans to release solely over the Xbox Live Arcade it seems, with three parts on the way.

They'll be released over a 12 month period with each lasting around 5 hours. If Hydrophobia proves a hit then DED will work another three. It's all about a sinking-ship and a fearful woman.

Sony Uncharted 2 cinema event could 'start something', "fill seats"

Movie cinemas aren't in too good of shape as they used to be but Sony has an idea, and one they're going to test with Naughty Dog's latest Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

They will have the game playable in one of four US cinemas, which are equipped with Sony 4K digital cinema tech. Could be the "start of something", could be a "standard element".

No new Ico or Shadow of the Colossus, not "that kind of potential"

Team ICO's Fumito Ueda has said the PlayStation 2 hits Ico and Shadow of the Colossus won't be getting sequel releases, they could never have "exceeded the first" entries.

The Last Guardian occupies the same space as Colossus and Ico but no direct continuation is being handled, and won't be. The sequels just couldn't go "above and beyond" originals.

Visceral Games' Dead Space 2 is in the "later stages" of pre-production right now says a LinkedIn job ad for a 'Lead Combat & Controls Designer' at the game studio.

It lists the game for Xbox 360 and PS3 with it ready for production in the "in the next few months," with its combat and navigational mechanics "in place" from the original game.

Battlefield Heroes' fall update arrives, adds a new map and fixes

EA and developer DICE have let loose the fall update for Battlefield Heroes and it changes a lot, and includes a whole new map called 'Riverside Rush'. New items and bundles.

This update changes the weapons of the Gunner don't forget. His keg slows enemies down, his shield protects allies and frenzy fire heals the more you kill. Loads of bug fixes.

Funcom: "Staff cuts will have little effect on Age of Conan"

It was revealed yesterday that Funcom would be cutting 20 per cent of its workforce, which resulted in a delay for its upcoming MMO The Secret World, leaving us with a thought about what it would mean for Age of Conan.

For those of you worried, don't be. A Funcom spokesperson told us that it will have little effect on Age of Conan and its expansion: "What I can tell you is that this will have little to no effect on Conan and the expansion. The Secret World will be delayed with a few months."

Lord of the Rings Online will be receiving its expansion this December 1st, accompanied by a number of pre-order packages from developer Turbine which includes lifetime subs.

For $200 users can simply buy their subscription to the MMO outright, and those who change over to a multi-month sub gets the Siege of Mirkwood free. Cha-ching.

BioWare's Star Wars The Old Republic suffers beta sign up traffic

The website for BioWare and LucasArts' Star Wars The Old Republic is feeling the strain as fans flocked to scribble in their name on the closed beta list. The site is a little unstable.

BioWare developers will be "selecting testers" from the fan community based upon a number of factors, and registrants must be over 18. The beta will involve "several phases".

Cloud platform OnLive pegged for "winter", locks major investment

OnLive has managed to secure a third round of funding from its existing partners, likely pushing it way over $500 million in valuation, and it's hoping for a "winter" launch in the US.

Currently the Cloud gaming platform service is in heavy beta testing, and Perlman says OnLive's goal is to complete the "last remaining transition" of physical media to digital.

Sony and developer Naughty Dog have finally thrown open the beta to all for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves' multiplayer. This comes after a period of intense closed testing.

The new beta period ends on October 12th but until then you can let bullets fly and scrap those knees across four maps through a variety of modes. It also grants access to Machinima mode.

Final Fantasy XIII to exceed 6m, Square want eight titles shifting 2m

Publisher Square Enix is confident of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII blowing past 6 million sales thanks to the recent price cuts for the next-gen consoles. It's out December.

At least it's out in Japan anyway. Square also reveal their plans to launch eight titles with each securing over 2 million sales. Two or three of these titles are already in development.

The marathon run that is MMO Final Fantasy XI is getting it's next free update in early November, with publisher Square assuring it's "currently on track" for then.

The expansion known as 'A Shantotto Ascension' is due in October, says a new trailer. It adds new Wings of the Goddess quests, new dungeon-crawling features and more.

Kojima has no problems with Metal Gear remake, even if "foreign"

Hideo Kojima wouldn't stand in the way of someone trying to remake his original Metal Gear videogame, that being the 8-bit one. The creator would not shun a "foreign" team either.

The original Metal Gear was released back in 1987 on the MSX and achieved globe acclaim on the Nintendo game system. A young hotshot with maybe "more abilities" is welcome to try.

Capcom's Keiji Inafune would love to have multiple endings in the undead sequel, just like the first game did, however they're too early in development to make it definitive.

The Capcom boss "would love" to include them but they haven't reached a point they can decide "one way or the other" yet, he can't officially say "yes or no." Game footage is out.

Gameloft's EarthWorm Jim based on Sega Genesis, hits XBLA first

The impending EarthWorm Jim goodness coming to fans through digital channels will be based on the original Sega Genesis version, but will include the bonus 'Big Bruty' level.

The remake will feature several modes of difficulty, better visuals with smooth animations and "some surprises" to be revealed later. Original devs not involved; Perry and Nepal.

Adventure man Dave Grossman has been evasive in his reply to the question many fans want answered, and that is will Day of the Tentacle return? He points to LucasArts.

The reason Monkey Island has taken so long to be revived is because LucasArts "were reluctant." When Darrell Rodriguez stepped in, things got moving on old adventure IP again.
