Infinity let "story dictate" games length, defends Modern Warfare 2

A criticism of the first Modern Warfare was that its singleplayer experience was far too short, clocking in at around 6 hours, but Robert Bowling defends Infinity's creative approach.

The studio "try and focus" on the experience and its delivery, and they let narrative decide "how long" it'll be. Won't make 20 hour game just because some "want a 20 hour game".

Rumour-mill: Developer Guerrilla will release Killzone 3 next year?

For the amount of rumours in the videogames industry, to take a pinch of salt each time would obliterate our world's ecosystem. Apparently Killzone 3 is due sometime in 2010.

That's according to the Official PlayStation Magazine, describing it as "deep in development" over at Guerrilla Games. It'd have to be for a date next year, as Killzone 2 took four years to make.

BBFC rates Modern Warfare 2 an 18 in UK

The British Board of Film Classification has given Modern Warfare 2 a rating of 18 in the UK.

This will be the first time a Call of Duty game has been given an 18 rating, although no cuts will be made to the final version.

DICE: Dedicated servers "FTW," they give "better online" playtime

With the revelation from Infinity Ward that Modern Warfare 2 has dropkicked dedicated servers for PC versions, developer DICE has come out in favour of them to reassure fans.

DICE executive producer KM Troedsson says whatever "secures a better online experience" will be included in their games, and gives a huge 'FTW' thumbs up to dedicated servers.

Some new downloadable content is en route to SOCOM: Confrontation, with Sony announcing it will release with new weapons, maps, characters, music, trophies, modes.

It adds a Russian/Eastern European operations area, and a new Arms Race gameplay mode. Expect some top notch "snow effects, snow gear, and thermal vision" when it arrives.

BioShock 2 has gameplay reveal Thursday, rapturous news for fans

This week's episode of GTTV with Geoff Keighley has got underwater action from BioShock 2, and will be airing lots of "new single player info and footage" to viewers and more.

Aside from the shots of gameplay, we'll also be introduced to new characters. The second game has the player as the very first 'Big Daddy', and releases worldwide on February 9th 2010.

Developer Infinity Ward plan on celebrating the Call of Duty series by releasing the original game they made onto Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. It's almost here.

While no date has been set for its release, a dozen Achievements totalling 200 Gamerscore points have been outed. The arcade title is free for purchasers of the costly Prestige Edition.

Movie set billboard peddles Resistance 3, no reveals "at this time"

You can't hide from gamers, even if you are a 'fake' billboard meant only for a movie set. The flick in question is 'Battle: Los Angeles', which follows an alien invasion of Earth.

Sound familiar? Indeed. It's to be distributed by Columbia Pictures, which Sony Pictures owns. Resistance developer Insomniac Games says they've "no announcements" right now.

Scivelation is announced, an "unrelenting" third-person shooter

TopWare Interactive has nabbed the rights to 'Scivelation', and Ukrainian developer Black Wing Foundation is working it now. It's a post-apocalyptic setting with oppression to fight.

They describe the oddly named game as "ambitious," one that'll transform the genre into an "unrelenting interactive experience" as players hit back against the Regime as a rebel.

EA labels Left 4 Dead 2/Mass Effect 2 PS3 listing as error, removed

Someone got a little ahead of themselves as EA's Russian website listed both Valve's impending Left 4 Dead 2 and BioWare's Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 - oops.

The infected sequel is certainly not going to be on PS3 anytime soon, with developer Valve bemoaning the platform. Commander Shepard however is thought to be a lot more open.

Crytek UK is busy "concepting up" original IP, will use CryEngine 3

The newly formed Crytek UK, formerly Free Radical, are real busy these days as they're putting together "an original IP" that they hope will define the UK-based studio.

It looks to have singleplayer and online play according to studio manager Karl Hilton. The UK studio has a "strong history" of creativity, and they're marching forward with Crytek tech.

Clip claims to be Max Payne 3 teaser, Rockstar refuses to comment

Developer Rockstar Games has offered a 'no comment' when quizzed whether a YouTube clip is an authentic teaser trailer for the upcoming action title Max Payne 3.

The surfaced clip offers no gameplay footage, just a very slick 30 second teaser for the game. It shows some bullet-time and then a bald Max Payne. It says "coming winter 2009".

Developer Xdev has announced a new patch is "incoming" for the PlayStation 3 exclusive Crash Commando, addressing some niggles and enabling Rumble pad action.

It tackles "a couple of things" the team has noticed since launch says producer John McLaughlin. The Heist Map Pack now unlocks properly when purchased within the game store.

Valve president Gabe Newell recently said, "based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest-selling product in Valve's history."

The announcement arrives as part of todays $24 million ad reveal- a huge sum when compared to the original's $10 million.

Infinity Ward has revealed that Activision did not originally want Call of Duty 4 to be a Modern Warfare game.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine, Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella announced that the team had been wanting to produce a modern warfare game for years, but Activision held them back.

According to a former EA employee, the new Medal of Honor game will be set in modern times.

The CV of Micah Lapping-Carr, a production intern at the developers between June 2008 and August 2008, states there is a "modern combat" game under the MoH name.

Dust 514 free of subscription charges

The news spurting from Fanfest in Reykjavik over the weekend suggests that CCP's upcoming console MMO Dust 514 won't charge players with a monthly subscription.

Instead, the game will use micro-transactions via the virtual items marketplace.

As Modern Warfare 2 gains momentum before release, gamers everywhere will be salivating at the news of the multiplayer maps and Achievements being uncovered.

This announcement comes after the release of a brand new trailer, and gives us map names such as "Rust", "Terminal", "High Rise" and "Scrapyard" to ponder over. The game's Special Ops missions also include match types such as "Body Count", "Snatch and Grab" and "Suspension".

Activision defends Modern Warfare 2 price

Activision UK managing director Andrew Brown has defended the publishers decision to price Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at £55 RRP.

When Activision originally revealed the price, retailers warned of the effect that the increase would have on consumers, which is £5 more than other Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles on the market.

But Brown is confident that consumers will feel that they are getting a good deal with the content provided by Modern Warfare 2.

D3 reveal Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond, 2.5D side scroller

Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard wasn't exactly a huge success, but D3 Publisher is confident a return to Matt Hazard's more traditional roots will do the trick.

They've announced Blood Bath and Beyond, a side scrolling action fest that promises a "flood of carnage" that the 8-bit era "didn't want gamers to see." It'll be on XBLA and PSN.
