No Dedicated Server Support for Rage?

Following on from the Modern Warfare 2 trend, id Software co-founder and technical wiz John Carmack has confirmed that the developer doesn't plan to add dedicated server support for the multiplayer component of Rage.

"It's not cast in stone yet, but at this point no, we don’t think we will have dedicated servers," said Carmack, talking to Variety.

Ubisoft has announced that the first Assassin's Creed: Lineage short movie that made its debut on YouTube on October 27, 2009, was the most watched video on YouTube with over 1.7 million views worldwide in a period of 24 hours.

Online CV hints at 'Family Guy Party Game' for next-gen consoles

According to the LinkedIn profile for Chris Kolmatycki, he was once a game designer at HB Studios, and worked on a Family Guy game.

It was pre-production work for a "Family Guy Party Game" on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. Another online profile corroborates a little.

The launch day numbers for Bayonetta show the PlayStation 3 version the victor with 93k copies sold, while the Xbox 360 counterpart managed to score 45k sales among gamers.

Whether this continues with PS3 in the lead or not won't be known just yet until the first week's numbers get posted, which is this Thursday.

Developer Remedy has been putting Alan Wake together for what seems an eternity, and so they believe it would be for the best if all preview copies sent to the press have no ending.

So cautious are the studio of someone letting slip a big spoiler that Remedy's Matias Myllyrinne reveals they're talking it over with Microsoft.

From a trailer preview event for the Prince of Persia flick, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, it's been said that Ubisoft will announce a new new game "in the spring," by the movie team.

They wouldn't elaborate past dropping that juicy tease of an announcement, saying it's "not their place" to spill details on the videogame project.

Tekken 6's "big day" arrives in Europe, Namco shipped 2.5m copies

Publisher Namco has said they've shipped out 2.5 million copies of Tekken 6, in all its variations, to European retailers for today's launch of the game. EU fans "very important".

Tekken project director Katsuhiro Harada notes it's "a big day for us." More than half of Tekken fans "are from Europe" and their feedback has had "a crucial role" in shaping Tekken 6.

Guitar-based Fret Nice in 2010, platform and music "perfect blend"

Tecmo has announced Fret Nice, a platform game from Swedish developer Pieces Interactive, played using guitar peripheral controllers. Pieces "felt sorry" for gamers.

Spending all that dosh on plastic guitars but only having "pure music games" is unfair, so along comes Fret for XBLA and PSN. It's the "perfect blend of two worlds" says boss Johan Hellberg.

The over-the-top witch action romp that is Platinum Games' Bayonetta, that heads to Xbox 360 and PS3, will be in European shops early January announces publisher Sega.

US gamers will get it a few days earlier on January 5th, while we must endure till the 8th. Bayonetta has just released in Japan, with news it includes English and is region free on PS3.

GTA IV "free to play" online this weekend, "special guests" attend

Developer Rockstar Games is celebrating the launch of The Ballad of Gay Tony, the latest DLC episode for GTA IV, by declaring this weekend free of Xbox Live multiplayer charges.

This covers GTA IV, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Also there'll be "special guests from Rockstar" online playing, with Henry Santos Jeter from "megaband" Aventura.

Alien Breed releases in the form of three downloadable episodes

Speaking at the Eurogamer Expo in Leeds yesterday, Team17's John Dennis has revealed that Alien Breed for Xbox 360 and PS3 will be released in the form of three downloadable episodes.

"In each episode there's a prologue level, then there are five single-player levels and they're really large... Much larger than they should have been," said Dennis.

Disney's Epic Mickey was for next-gen and PC, Spector wanted Wii

The announcement of Epic Mickey would have been for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC but designer Warren Spector advised Disney to "focus on one platform," so they all got ditched for Wii.

Spector said they "can't just port" to the Wii, it needs to be "its own game." A Wii exclusive question was posed by Disney Interactive boss Graham Hopper, which was a "magic moment".

The included game manual with GTA: Episodes from Liberty City, which bundles both The Lost and Damned with The Ballad of Gay Tony, has a huge whooping tease on page 13.

It shows a heart shaped design of Grand Theft Auto IV's box art broken in two. "Liberty City, It's Over!" it declares, with "Next Stop" cut short by a 'tear' in the poster. It looks rural-ish.

Ubisoft has announced that patches for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood are now available. These patches will improve the quality of multiplayer connections and matches, and refine the overall balance of multiplayer classes and modes.

Specifically for PS3, the patch will significantly reduce checkpoint loading times. The Spy, Gunslinger, Hombre, Veteran and Sniper classes have been balanced to offer the best experiences possible.

EA announces first DLC for Brutal Legend

EA has announced that the first downloadable content for Brutal Legend will be released in November for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Tears of the Hextadon will be available on 3rd November for 400 Microsoft Points and 5th November on the PlayStation Network for free until 19th November, it will cost £3.99 after this date.

Free DLC for early Fairytale Fights owners

Playlogic Entertainment announced today that Fairytale Fights will have free downloadable content for a limited period of time (90 days after release) for those that purchase the game within 90 days of launch.

The free DLC is valued at $15 and can be received by registering on the official website. The content will then be sent to you once it becomes available, via redeemable codes.

It's now almost a tradition just before a game releases, to have the achievements list spilled onto the Internet. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 2 is the latest to be 'initiated' into the fold.

Naturally the list contains a few spoilers here and there, so nosey gamers be warned. Expect to see 'No-hitter', 'Kleptomaniac' and 'Sweeper' popping on screen, giving you a pat on the back.

Speaking at the premiere of Assassin's Creed: Lineage in London, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat teased that there's "hope" Splinter Cell: Conviction could reach PS3.

Currently the latest upcoming instalment of Sam Fisher is due only for Xbox 360 and PC. Mallat says it's "good to hear" those that can't play, want to. Conviction releases February 2010.

The impending release of The Ballad of Gay Tony from Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto IV's latest episode, has naughty bits going on confirms the BBFC; strong naughty bits.

It's "always masked" though and involved characters are "invariably fully clothed." Naturally an 18 rating has been laid on it, with "very strong language" and "hard drug use".
