New PS3 development kits are going on sale worldwide to help with "advanced game programming" and better graphics rendering.

It is Sony's hope it will streamline the development process for many studios and publishers, "further accelerating the game development for PS3." They're priced around $2,000.

The mighty Warcraft/StarCraft developer Blizzard looks to be stepping out into the realms of new IP with two job postings adding to speculation.

Previously Blizz COO Paul Sams has said there's "certainly a desire" to cook up a new IP. They're looking for "experienced gameplay" engineers right now for an undisclosed project.

Amazon has recently begun listing Mass Effect 2 and has accompanied its product profile with some gossip, and 5 bullet points no less.

BioWare teases that Mass Effect's Shepard could be dead. Amazon says players will travel the galaxy to "assemble a team of soldiers" to launch an assault in the "heart of enemy territory."

Dylan Jobe, PS3's Warhawk, has revealed he and other big hitters at Incognito have left and are hoisting their new studio banner LightBox.

The new team are already in cahoots with Sony to developer titles for the "PlayStation family of platforms." The developer has talent from Twisted Metal, War of the Monsters and Warhawk.

DRM "a waste of time" says World of Goo man, doesn't stop piracy

2D Boy's Ron Carmel, the indie developer behind World of Goo, has lamblasted DRM saying you just end up giving the DRM guys money for nothing.

He laments that anything "of interest gets cracked" and the pirated versions end up with a "better user experience" thanks to no DRM checkpoints; advises indie devs to go digital.

Red Faction: Guerrilla can boast dynamic destruction, and that seems to be "ruining other games for people" according to dev Volition.

Lead designer James Hague says other next-gen titles are "beautiful games" but "they're set-pieces." The Saints Row developer is heading "toward fully-dynamic" everything.

Microsoft has confirmed the DLC for Valve's Left 4 Dead will hit the Xbox 360 this April 21st, and most likely the same for PC gamers.

The DLC packs includes a new survival mode where players have to hold out against hordes of undead, and enters two campaigns into Versus mode; Dead Air and Death Toll.

PC "largest single platform" for gaming, revenue is about $11 billion

PC Gaming Alliance has issued a report on the industry last year and have highlighted that the PC is still top dog, warrior, King and deity.

Collaborating with DFC Intelligence, they report that the PC games industry is worth $11 billion annually beating any console or portable system. MMOs are the "leading products".

Remaining rather elusive the corporate giant simply says this Xi will be "changing day by day, week by week, in real time," which is good I guess.

Of course we don't really know exactly what Xi is, other than it's meant to be mankind's "first console-based Alternate Reality Game". It's available for free anyway through Home.

CryENGINE 3 flaunts first footage, demo sports nano-suit soldiers

Crytek's latest game engine has had its first public unveiling, CryENGINE 3 is console-ready and making its presence felt at GDC.

The video, courtesy of IGN, shows some familiar island environments and some tasty urban conflicts with nano-suits in between. As this is a tech demo only it's not confirming a future game.

The Behemoth's Castle Crashers has won XBLA's 'Game of the Year' thanks to the voting arcade public over Xbox Live.

It also picked up 'Best Original Game' and 'Best Co-op Mode' too. Capcom's SSF II Turbo HD Remix wasn't light on awards; 'Best Versus Mode', 'Best Remake' and 'Best Graphics'.

OnLive launching this year, streams Cloud-rendered games to PC

Having been kept behind closed doors for seven years, OnLive exists to stream top games like Crysis to PCs without the hardware horsepower.

The subscription-based service will render the videogames at their "cloud" of servers, delivering games in high quality and even at 720p. Major publishers are all signed up already.

Darkling Room announces Dark Fall: Lost Souls for PC

Darkling Room today announced the official production of a third Dark Fall game, titled Dark Fall: Lost Souls. The horror/adventure is written, once again, by series creator, Jonathan Boakes, the writer of The Lost Crown: A Ghost-Hunting Adventure.

"It's a guilty pleasure to drag gamers, kicking and screaming, back to the creepy train station and hotel, seen in the first Dark Fall game. It’s a desolate, derelict, dark location, in which disappearances and strange events are commonplace" says Jonathan, "This next instalment, known as Lost Souls, is going to offer up the creepiest atmosphere of the series.. be warned, that old hotel knows your name, and is waiting for you this time round. Your room is prepared and ready."

Levine: Dev team "clicking on all cylinders" with new game project

The original BioShock team are busy working on a game that'll come as "a huge surprise" to fans says studio boss Ken Levine.

He teases with very few details, saying, aside from delivering a "narrative experience" we'd expect from the 2K Boston team, they're developing gameplay "completely new" to them.

SCEA's Peter Dille has said that Guerrilla Games' "mega blockbuster hit" will bolster Sony's PS3 installed based this year, in response to NPD's February digits.

Dille noted they've had a "tremendous kickstart" to the year thanks to Killzone 2, and it's going to help deliver "another record year" for team PlayStation. '09 will see "continued momentum".

EA has confirmed that release date for Need for Speed: Shift as September 17th, the most realistic in the franchise developed by Slightly Mad Studios.

The publisher boasts it "pushes the genre and delivers something never before seen" in Need for Speed. The game is to arrive slightly later on the 22nd in North America.

2K: BioShock 2 has a "simultaneous release" on Xbox 360, PS3, PC

The publisher has confirmed the anticipated sequel will be releasing across the three platforms at the same time.

2K also revealed details of the included multiplayer mode will slip "soon enough" for fans. BioShock 2 is expected to release later this year and sees a return to the underwater city of Rapture.

The corporate giant is also salivating at the idea Resident Evil 5 is going to outperform on the Xbox 360 too. Microsoft is buoyed by recent NPD figures showing the PS3 losing traction.

Peter Molyneux has reminisced about the old days; the word 'producer' "was spat upon," they "never used to plan anything" and had "no idea" on financial matters.

The toddler years are over though says Molyneux, and that screwing up now "when you've got 100 people" is dangerous. Only a small time "ten or 20 person team" can error.
