BioWare reiterate return to "Baldur's Gate roots" with Dragon Age

David Gaider, lead writer at BioWare, has described Dragon Age: Origins as a more old skool RPG experience akin to their "Baldur's Gate roots."

Mass Effect was "more cinematic" whereas Dragon Age is definitely "a little more traditional." Developer BioWare has been touting this as a spiritual successor to the cult classic.

The announcement of PlayStation 3's motion controller was more about the technology itself than unveiling a product or game says SCEA's Peter Dille.

The current "form factor" of the PS3 wand is just a prototype model, though it's certainly "representative" of what it will be. The end design "will have buttons" and a trigger.

FIFA producer David Rutter of EA Sports has said he's "extremely proud and privileged" to be doing what he loves and EA aren't bad guys anymore.

Conceding he "used to be" one of EA's critics, Rutter praises "the work Peter Moore" and others who've helped turn it around. They spend huge cash on gameplay and not gimmicks.

CrimeCraft is not "a full-featured MMO" and they don't want to be, developer Vogster want "a solid shooter with good character customization" and social aspects.

While MMO All Points Bulletin may have 100 players on at a time, CrimeCraft has 1500 says the team - outside of customisation CrimeCraft is "a very, very different game" from APB.

In a bid to "expedite the repair process" of Xbox 360's suffering from RROD, Microsoft has decided to ditch the 'coffin' box they send out to customers.

This allows us to send our bricked consoles to them faster; all we need do is slap a pre-paid e-label on our own box and send it off straight away. Where does one get a 360 box?

If you can cast your mind back to the beginning of this year then you might remember Kodu, a game capable of helping gamers create games, for other gamers!

There's no date set in stone but they expect a release by the end of the month. Kodu is a little bit like LittleBigPlanet in terms of user-creation, but is otherwise completely different.

Rare's Perfect Dark is getting the HD facelift when it arrives this winter, it'll come packing 60 frames per second, 1080p resolution and co-op play.

4J Studios is handling the XBLA tribute to the classic N64 shooter, and they're hard at work to give us "greater definition and detail" along with other new features yet to be disclosed.

Remedy has been talking about the 5 year development process for Alan Wake, as it was originally announced back in 2005. Sam Lake, lead writer, tells Joystig that Remedy is not a factory.

"Remedy is not a factory, we take our time and try out different things until we feel have found the right combination and a good balance for the game."

Andrew House, SCEE president, has claimed that gamers will eventually "upgrade" to Sony's next-gen console after they tire of "entry level" machines.

PS2 and N64 showed this says House, consumers started with N64 and then moved to PS2 "when the price point was right for them." Is this Sony's way of announcing a price cut?

EA's The Sims 3 has secured itself atop the British PC chart, and enjoyed the fourth largest opening week for a PC game on the shores of Blighty.

The other games to get such big receptions their opening weeks were World of Warcraft's two expansions and Championship Manager 4. Brits are Sims mad, no thanks to soap-operas.

Scott Austin of Microsoft has revealed their upcoming service for users to buy full retail games over Xbox Live will use local currency and not Microsoft Points.

This is so gamers can see "if we're the same price as retail or not," but could be rolled out to all corners of Xbox Live if it proves popular, but that's "not in the immediate future."

Total Annihilation man Chris Taylor has revealed his sorrow for Hellbent Games, the console developer for Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander.

The whole thing was "a hair on fire mission," and something they want to avoid with Supreme Commander 2. The sequel will head to consoles, but GPG will handle it themselves.

Xbox 360's Section 8 supports player-run dedicated servers on PC

Producer Robert Siwiak has revealed that Section 8 will be the first console game ever to support dedicated servers from players' PCs, with up to 32-player matches.

An application can be downloaded and run on the PC, with TimeGate also hosting some of their own servers for the shooter. Section 8 arrives this Fall on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 "directly" carries on from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which has "never happened" before.

Admitting they're "typically their own campaigns" in the Call of Duty franchise, Infinity want to make it clear this one "is indeed a direct sequel". It releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this Fall.

After the tragic Albertville-Realschule massacre where a 17-year-old teen went on a killing spree and murdered 16 people, German politicians have been pointing fingers.
