Developer Criterion has talked up the social aspect of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, saying "digital" chatter is "at the heart" of society these days.
Their Autolog feature will help fuel "rivalry between friends" to outdo one another. Multiplayer supports 8 with any combo like 7 cops tailing 1 racer.

Criterion is making the new spine tingly Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and they reveal it will have an exclusive Porsche super hybrid car in it.
Unveiled in Geneva in March this year, the 'Porsche 918 Spyder' is a "hybrid supercar" that tops 200mph. PC and PS3 versions support 3D.

Publisher Atari has announced that developer Eden's open driving world of Test Drive Unlimited 2 releases in the shops this September 21st.

The open-world racing antics of Test Drive Unlimited 2 from Namco Bandai and developer Eden Studios has not one, but two islands to play on.

Project Gotham Racing developer Bizarre Creations says it's best "at this stage of the console cycle" to embrace fun over yet more realism.

Deep Silver today announced the first details for its upcoming arcade racing game nail'd, which will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in the Q4 2010.
Players in nail'd get to choose between various vehicle classes, including motorbikes and quads. Once they have picked their vehicles, it's time to face the track and succeed against challenging AI opponents. The game will also feature a soundtrack by well-known bands.

Paul Jeal of Codemasters has said the studio won't be concentrating on post-release content, thanks to their "fairly late" release this year.
That means they have all the data they need. The core team will "roll onto developing 2011" once they're done, and put 'DLC into 2011' instead.

Developer Bizarre Creations of Project Gotham Racing fame has two other projects on the go alongside the upcoming action racer Blur.

Electronic Arts today announced that the closed beta for Need for Speed World, the massively multiplayer online action racing game has begun. Over the course of the next few months, thousands of players worldwide will have the opportunity to claim one of the limited slots in the PC beta test by enlisting at world.needforspeed.com.
"Need for Speed World is the world's first MMO racer – a completely new entertainment experience for speed junkies all over the world," said John Doyle, Need for Speed World Senior Producer. "We have expanded Need for Speed’s classic adrenaline fueled racing with an all-new power up system and deep RPG style progression to create a truly massive, socially-connected white-knuckle Need for Speed experience."
