Midway's financial troubles itemised, long list of people to pay back

With the publisher filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy their dirty laundry has been pieced together by GamePolitics and posted for our pleasure.

There are a lot of peeps on the list including retailers who Midway owe sacks of cash to. The highest debt is to Wells Fargo Bank ($150m), with GameStop and Kmart near the bottom.

A Kotaku reader has posted in a page from the Toys 'R' Us store's database which lists a "XB360 HW RED ELITE" with a price of $399.99, unlikely to be final if true.

It was rumoured a red Xbox 360 might launch to celebrate the arrival of Resident Evil 5, and the fact the franchise is coming to the platform. It all remains a mystery for now.

Second Mass Effect DLC to introduce a "fight club space station"

Lead designer Preston Watamaniuk has revealed during a Mass Effect documentary video that they intended a "fight club or an arena" to make it into the game.

Unfortunately they couldn't pull it off in time for retail so now DLC looks to address that issue. He reveals that's what the team is working on for the "next downloadable content piece".

Rare show their Ghoulies once more

The next game to get the Xbox Originals treatment arrived this morning, when Rare's slow-selling title Grabbed by the Ghoulies became ready to download.

Game director Greg Mayles explained, "For all those discerning games connoisseurs who somehow managed to miss out on playing Ghoulies the first time (and I'm sure there must be a few million of you somewhere), I highly recommend you spend a few lazy evenings (or a lot if you're rubbish at games) inside the Baron's delightful Ghoulhaven Hall."

Snowblind's angle shooter Death Tank arrives on XBLA tomorrow

Blasting its way to XBLA is Snowblind Studio's Death Tank which sees up to eight-players battle it out - a brain for minor math required.

Gamers work out the angle they need to strike at an enemy and let the guns blaze; basically it's Worms but with tanks. The XBLA title is going for a hefty 1200 MS points, which seems a little steep.

StarCraft II "in the final stretch" says Blizzard

StarCraft II lead designer Dustin Browder has indicated that the game isn’t too far from a full release.

"We don’t want to lie about the Beta, and we don’t even want to lie about the next Battle Report," said Browder when responding to a FAQ about the upcoming beta test. "When we know a date (for anything) for certain, we’ll let you know. Hang in there. We’re in the final stretch."

News has shuffled down the undead grapevine that THQ's Conan dev Nihilistic Software are now busy on a different kind of blood lusting - the undead kind.

It's apparently an arcade style game with multiplayer support entitled 'Zombie Apocalypse' sources tell Destructoid. It will be released for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Drakensang: The River Of Time announced, prequel to The Dark Eye

DTP Entertainment today confirmed that developer Radon Labs is working on a prequel to The Dark Eye: Drakensang, which has won the "best German RPG 2008" award at the German Developer Awards. Drakensang: The River Of Time is going to tell a new story within the Drakensang universe. The prequel is scheduled to be released on the PC early 2010.

"Fans of Drakensang and RPGs get exactly what they want: A new story in the embosomed Drakensang universe, bringing as much innovations as tried and true game elements", describes Bernd Beyreuther, Creative Director at Radon Labs, Drakensang: The River Of Time.

It has been revealed today that Microsoft Game Studios' Rare team is to restructure, along with several redundancies likely for the studio that recently developed Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Men of War Demo Released

505 Games and 1C Company are pleased to announce that the single-player demo for World War II strategy title Men of War is now available to download. It gives a first taste of the epic campaign ahead of the game's PC release on 27th February.

The demo features the entire opening stage of the Russian campaign, which sees a small unit from the Red Army taking on the might of the Germans. This initial mission helps players to get to grips with the controls before culminating in a tightly fought battle between a Russian tank and a convoy of German vehicles.

With NCsoft releasing "a very broad release window" of 2010/11 for Guild Wars 2, fans have become a little upset they may need to wait for so long.

Mike O'Brien of ArenaNet has responded to fans that they have "never given" a date for release to NCsoft. It's done "when it's done" and investor materials reflect "that philosophy."

In Square Enix's fiscal report they save some ink for Eidos, where they identify the "major" properties with the British publisher.

Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman and even Kane & Lynch make the list. Square also mentioned Eidos' "talented development" teams around the world. Will they all be safe?

The planned Downloadable Content for Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost and Damned, has now been released onto the Xbox Live Marketplace for 1600 Microsoft Points.

Johnny is a veteran member of The Lost, a notorious biker gang. Johnny has been creating business opportunities for The Lost in Liberty City, but his first loyalty must be to the patch he wears on his back and to Billy Grey, the club’s President. ArenaNet's sequel to their popular free-to-play Guild Wars MMO franchise won't hit live servers until next year at the earliest it seems.

Aion: Tower of Eternity, the publisher's latest MMO project, has been delayed until Q4 for release in North America. Guild Wars' active numbers have risen up to near 6 million.

Konami Entertainment announced today that its PlayStation 3 epic Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be released as part of the budget Platinum range from March 5th in Europe.

With a new RRP of 29,95 Euro, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots returns following an incredible period as a full-price title. The game saw over three million copies shipped on its release in June 2008 and has won a host of illustrious awards all over the globe, and its continued success saw sales of the long-running Metal Gear series top 26.5 million units.

The corporate giant's Chris Lewis has said based on "legitimate external data sources" the Xbox 360 is leading ahead by more than a million units.

Despite their boasting they remain "highly respectful" to their hardware rivals says Microsoft's Lewis. They're not obsessed with rival Sony but they "like a target to run at".

Lionhead confirm recent artworks "are old projects" they quit on

Some rather juicy concept artwork has surfaced and both are confirmed with links to Lionhead Studios but sadly they're not to be confirms the team.

From conceptual artists Leading Light, two project names cropped up called "Justice" and "Survivor" but ultimately there is to be no justice as neither survived; pretty artwork though.
