PEGI rolling ahead with 'traffic light' age rating system in Europe

In a move to simplify the age rating system for the videogames industry in Europe, PEGI are to proceed with ditching their black & white funny pictures for colours.

In the UK however no decision has been made yet as the industry is awaiting the end of the "consultation period" with the Government, reveals ELSPA's Michael Rawlinson.

Halo 3 runs faster off DVD than HDD because of "utility partition"

Bungie has posted their explanation for why Halo 3 loads slower once installed to the hard drive of a 360 through NXE. It's the games way of caching maps basically.

The game doesn't know it's already on the HDD so it re-copies the map data to the "utility partition" to cache the data; all this reading/writing ties up the HDD slowing it.

Despite selling a healthy 534,000 copies of the latest Guitar Hero game over four consoles, it still pales when compared to its predecessors 1.39 million.

Activision will be happy at least that World Tour managed to best Rock Band's 238,000 units shifted. Still the game has failed to achieve a place in October's top ten.

Epic is fixing "longer-than-ideal" matchmaking for Gears of War 2

Gamers have been complaining of having to wait rather long times to get in on the multiplayer action through Gears of War 2's public matchmaking.

Epic Games have acknowledged the issue and are working on "some solutions" to sort the mess out but add it's a "complicated issue" as there isn't any one cause.

Prince of Persia DLC Planned, More Information Coming Soon

Ubisoft confirmed today that it will release Downloadable Content for its upcoming Prince of Persia video game post-launch. Full details and release date are to be announced in the near future.

"Our intention is to do downloadable content that really offers a lot of value for the player - another experience."
said Ben Mattes, Producer.

Prince of Persia is scheduled to release on December 5, 2008 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts today announced the latest addition to Star Wars Galaxies, Chapter 11: The Battle of Echo Base, that brings the epic action and excitement from one of the most gripping fights in Star Wars history to fans and players in a way they've never experienced before.

This latest chapter in the Star Wars Galaxies saga lets players relive pivotal combat missions on behalf of either the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance. Wrath of the Lich King breaks record, reaches 2.8 million sales in 24 hours

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has sold well over 2.8 million units in its first 24 hours of being available at retail stores, giving it the world record of being the fastest selling PC game of all time.

This eclipses the previous record of nearly 2.4 million copies sold in 24 hours, set in January 2007 by Blizzard’s first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade.

Qore subscribers get Home beta invites, v1.0 now live on servers

Dun dun dun, it's finally happened. Sony's Home has managed to scrape and claw its way to the big number: 1.0. It's now running live on test servers.

The beta testers are "expected to help shape" Home through feedback and generally moaning or brown-nosing about features that catch their attention. Open beta almost here.

THQ and Activision friends once more, Baja box art suit is dropped

Activision has conceded that the cover art for their 'SCORE International Baja 1000: The Official Game' was indeed rather similar to THQ's own Baja game box art.

The publisher has decided to withdraw the design and plaster a new one in its place, THQ is happy enough with Activision's course of action they've dropped the lawsuit. Bless.

Sony claim "licensing matters" behind Netflix 360 movie blockage

A Sony Pictures representative has said it's down to getting the licensing all sorted out and "not specific to Xbox", though timing would suggest otherwise.

They say talks are underway with "relevant parties" to address the problems "related to the distribution of its motion pictures." It's ongoing so that's all they'll say on the matter.

Gran Turismo reaches a decade, has 8.3 mil pixel party bash in NYC

Celebrating its tenth birthday a collection of four PS3 consoles were linked up to pump out 8.3 million pixels worth of Gran Turismo at a resolution of 3840x2160.

Bursting at 240fps, Gran Turismo enjoyed turning double digits for the first time and of course now we can all expect to dread the 'awkward' mood-swinging teen years ahead.

National Geographic snap up PS3's Afrika, to publish game in US

Despite receiving little in the way of reception over in Japan, the National Geographic seem determined to bring the IP to US shores as 'National Geographic: Africa'.

The videogame itself appeals to nature loving photographers and is set to release next month in the USA. If you like virtual nature observation then be sure to grab it.

LittleBigPlanet Patch 1.04 Released

Media Molecule has released a new patch for LittleBigPlanet, which can be download automatically upon loading the game. The patch is 11MB and updates the popular platforming game to version 1.04.

The update contains the following fixes, although this information hasn't been confirmed by Media Molecule yet.

XBLA Banjo-Kazooie now out December 3rd, redeem codes missing

Microsoft have confirmed that the original Banjo-Kazooie has been delayed until December 3rd, those who pre-order Nuts & Bolts can still get it early though.

The other problem is that some have never received their redeem codes from their pre-order copies. Microsoft believes this represents only "a small fraction" of gamers.

Well it's good and bad news, the good is that we now know what it's called, what it's about (sorta) and when it's coming; the bad is that it's over two months way.

What's surprising about the DLC is that you're not cast as Niko, the game's main character. Instead you play as Johnny Klebitz, a member of the Lost biker gang revealed Houser.

Xbox 360 Passes the 7 Million Sales Mark

MCV Reports that the Xbox 360 has passed the 7 million sales mark in Europe, selling over 2 million units since June, and Microsoft says it's thanks to the price cut and blanket Q4 marketing, although we expect that hot titles such as Fable II and Gears of War 2 have played an important role in boosting sales.

"We're in a position now where we've sold over seven million consoles in EMEA, which puts us in a fantastic place versus PlayStation 3," said VP of strategic marketing for Xbox in EMEA David Gosen.

If you're one to draw some similarities between MKR's 1978 film Dawn of the Dead and Capcom's Dead Rising videogame then you might feel there's a court case to be had.

Well that ship has sailed and Capcom have managed to win the suit which MKR brought against them. US Magistrate Judge Richard Seeborg declared them too dissimilar.

Soren Johnson, Spore and Civ 4 designer, has trashed the notion that the used games market is an evil monster out to get developers.

In his blog essay, The Case for Used Games, he argues it's very important actually to help keep "price-sensitive" gamers away from piracy. Digital copies "need to cost less" than boxed retail too.

Jerry Johnson, Xbox Live man, has revealed that Microsoft will be keeping the fashion flood gates open for the next 6 months as Avatars get new theme packs.

No clue yet if all these additions to the avatars will be offered freely or come with a price tag. If you haven't grabbed the NXE yet then go do it now, it's like super hip cool and stuff, dude.
