While the World of Warplanes MMO might only be worth 10% of World of Tanks thunderous 80 million registered users, Wargaming is nonetheless "very happy" with their winged spin-off.

They "might not call it a big success" when compared to WoT, but across the industry it's a "huge success" to achieve 8 million. Warplanes is also more Western-orientated.

MMO WildStar now features something called Warplots which facilitate the madness of 40 versus 40 battle royale between players. What's more is that you get a huge fortress for your war party that you can improve.

You 'land' the Warplot and go to battle, but to make things more interesting there are resources to collect on the battlefields to 'power up' the stuff back at the Warplot you own.

High fantasy MMO Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen will be slowing down in production as the initial crowd-funds "have depleted," and so the team is relying on securing more funds before it can pick up again.

There'll get "much-needed studio space" once funding has been found for Pantheon, and so until then the game will progress slowly and they'll focus attention on the website.

EVE Online developer CCP has announced that their vampire and generally supernatural MMO World of Darkness is to be no more. The project is officially cancelled with 56 staff laid off at the Atlanta studio.

This has been "one of the hardest" decisions for CCP's Hilmar Veigar Petursson, he said. In the end they were "falling regretfully short" of their vision for World of Darkness.

World of Tanks enjoys higher average revenue per user at $4.51 among F2P MMOs

According to a report from SuperData Research, Wargaming's F2P MMO World of Tanks is leading the pack for average revenue per user among the free-to-play MMO big boys with $4.51. Valve is second.

Team Fortress 2 is just behind with $4.36 on average, with Guilds Wars 2 third at $3.88. DOTA 2 and League of Legends are eighth and tenth respectively with $1.54 and $1.32.

Swedish developer Massive Entertainment is developing Tom Clancy's The Division, but last fall they begun looking for other Ubisoft studios to lend them a hand. They turned to North Carolina-based Red Storm.

That was the original studio that brought us Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon, and even employed Tom Clancy. Red Storm is behind The Division's "authentic arsenal" of weapons.

Ubisoft has released two episodes in a dev diary series called The Journey for the upcoming Ghost Recon Phantoms. The studio behind it explains how the project started and where they decided to take it.

It went from Future Soldier to Online, and dropped retail for free-to-play. Next week will see the release of Ghost Recon Phantoms as the team focus on the PC version, with Wii U on hold.

Controversy! Development director David Georgeson of EverQuest Next believes that, while there's "nothing wrong" with subscriptions, we should all want our MMOs in free-to-play flavour. It's to 'our benefit'.

Put simply, if the experience is free-to-play then it has to be entertaining or "we don't make a dime." The F2P games are "street performers" while $60 up front is 'a gamble'.

ArenaNet is changing up their traits system in Guild Wars 2 by removing the need for profession trainers as each new tier will unlock at no charge, so players can "dive right into the system". Traits levels have changed.

Trait points are also being condensed so at level 80 you have 14 to spend, instead of 70, and points will start at level 30. It's to make the system "much easier" for newcomers.
