Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that its highly anticipated PlayStation Home beta service for the PlayStation 3 will be available to all PS3 users around the globe on December 11th, 2008. PlayStation Home is a 3D social gaming community available on PS3 that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences. By leveraging the power of PS3, PlayStation Home delivers overwhelming visual graphics and rich gaming social experiences. Within PlayStation Home, users can create and customize their own unique avatars and explore the virtual community in real time where they can communicate freely through text or voice chat. | |

Sony Computer Entertainment confirmed this morning that the PlayStation division is currently under review, as the company is reviewing all sections of the business as it has been affected by the current economic downturn. "In order to stay competitive in the accelerating global network environment, we will always carefully review and make structural changes, if necessary, in order to further expand and strengthen the PlayStation business around the world," said Sony in a statement issued to Gameindustry.biz. 8000 jobs were cut this morning, with an announcement that the company would be reducing investment in manufacturing. The company also has plans to downsize or withdraw from "unprofitable or non-core businesses." | |
| Fable II Lead Designer Joins Splash Damage | |

Splash Damaged today announced that is has appointed industry veteran Richard Ham as Creative Director. Richard comes to Splash Damage having completed Lionhead's Fable II as Lead Designer, and was the creative lead of Syphon Filter, one of the best selling shooter franchises on the original PlayStation. In his new role as Creative Director at Splash Damage, Richard will drive the vision and lead the design team behind their new AAA multi-platform title being developed in partnership with Bethesda Softworks. Richard will work alongside the wealth of talent that has joined Splash Damage throughout 2008, including senior, lead, and directorial staff behind hits such as Mass Effect, Rainbow Six Vegas, Heavenly Sword, and Burnout Paradise. | |

There is a new gameplay trailer for Lord of the Rings: Conquest available to stream from our servers, although the language is in French, sorry about that. Still, you get to check out the gameplay footage, which is looking very good. We can't wait to get our hands on it. Should be coming out for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 on 9th January, 2009. A reply from the Community Manager for Fallout 3 on the official forums has confirmed that Bethesda will soon release patches for every version of Fallout 3, which was revealed in a reply to fans that asked about a possible fix for the PS3 version. | |
| Codemasters delays Rise of the Argonauts, Damnation | |

Codemasters today confirmed that the upcoming release of Rise of the Argonauts has been delayed until sometime near Christmas, although Codemasters has told Strategy Informer that the game is ready for release, but it wants to hold back on releasing the game due to major competition coming from some very established brands. "The game is essentially ready for release - we're currently going through the submission process and we're very happy with where the game is, how good it looks and how well it plays. The issue we have is the manufacturing times in a very crowded time for the industry, and whether we want to be in retail at a time where we're facing major competition from some very established brands." said the spokesperson. | |

Bethesda's Peter Hines is currently having a live Interview with the audience at Eurogamer, to talk about Fallout 3. During the interview, Hines confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of Fallout 3 will support Trophies, although he isn't sure when this will happen. "It's going to happen, just not sure when. We'll let folks know when we have something more definitive." said Hines. | |

Double Fine title Brutal Legends has yet to find a publisher following the Activision Blizzard merger and their decision not to publish the title. An article in Variety reports that "tensions are running high between Double Fine and Activision Blizzard" over the heavy metal action game as a new publisher is sought. | |
