| Microsoft Announces first ever Xbox Live Arcade awards | |

Microsoft is celebrating the release of 112 games on the Xbox Live Arcade by announcing a reward program that will allow gamers to vote for their favorite games on the service. Voting begins Tuesday, 22nd January at 10:00 a.m. and runs until Wednesday, 30th January at 07:59 a.m. The finalists in each category were selected by a panel of consumer and video game industry journalists and the winners will be determined by popular vote. Microsoft will announce the winners at the Game Developer Conference in February. | |
| Zavvi set to expand games area | |

Zavvi has told MCV that they'll be increasing their games area by 15 percent, taking shelf space from the music section. The reason for this increase is because during the Christmas season the store saw a big increase in the amount of game products that got sold. This will mark the second time its increased its range of gaming products. | |
| Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust revealed | |

In an exclusive interview with IGN today, Executive Producer John Melchior revealed that Sierra are working with Team 17 on a new Leisure Suit Larry game entitled “Box Office Bust” which is to be released on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. It's well known that the last game wasn't a huge success, it didn't do very well with sales and generally departed from the past games that were released in the late 1980's, but this time they've got a new developer that hopes to create a sequel with true mechanics and a vision that it catered towards today's gamers. | |

Nintendo of America has released a huge list that contains release dates for their upcoming Wii and DS games as well as some third party ones that are currently in development. These dates aren't for the European version, unfortunately for us they are US dates but they should give us a good idea of when they are nearing release in the UK. We would like to point out some of our favorite ones on this list for the Wii, Alone in the Dark is coming in March from Atari, Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel from Nintendo are set to arrive in spring and LucasArts LEGO: Indiana Jones is also set for a release in spring whilst Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be hitting stores in the summer. | |

Retail chains, Amazon and Gamefly have revealed product pages for Silent Hill Origins on the PS2, which would confirm recent rumours about the title appearing on this platform as well as the PSP which it has only currently been announced for. Website Siliconera noticed that both of the retail chains had box art posted up which also declared a release date, Amazon listing it for a 4th March 2008 date and GameFly pushing it back a bit to 31st March 2008. | |

The Competition Commission has confirmed that Game's acquisition of Gamestation is almost set and that the market shouldn't expect to see any substantial lessening of competition for the supply of gaming software, consoles and related accessories in the UK. Yesterday we reported that a German press release from JoWood confirmed that Sam & Max, the point and click comedy crime pair, would be making an appearance on the Wii. But, the developer of the PC series of episodic releases has now said that they have not confirmed this for the Wii. | |

Nintendo has revealed that a delay for Super Smash Bros. Brawl in US and Japan has been set, it'll now be released on March 9th 2008; a month later than the previous date which was originally set for February 10th. We've been receiving daily updates on Super Smash Bros. Brawl for sometime now, screenshots and other important information are revealed in these updates, so fans are extremely excited about this title and will be disappointed by the delay. This weeks Xbox Live Arcade release will be Boogie Bunnies, it's available on Wednesday and is a 3D puzzle game from Sierra Online. Microsoft describe it as: “an imaginative color matching 3D puzzle game from Sierra Online, players must use their wits to keep a herd of bunnies out of danger. “Boogie Bunnies” transports players to exotic locations where they complete extensive chain puzzles to trigger funky bunny dances. The game features Classic, Arcade or Endless game modes that players can join in for some furry fun either online or offline in two-player cooperative and competitive modes that the entire family will enjoy.” | |
