DiRT 2 PC takes advantage of DirectX 11, delayed until December 2009

Codemasters announced today that the Games for Windows LIVE edition of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will support the advanced features that are available in DirectX 11.

With DirectX 11 hardware expected to ship in the second half of 2009, and DirectX 11 coming to home computers with the release of Microsoft Windows 7 on October 22, 2009, Codemasters also announced that the Games For Windows LIVE edition of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will benefit from an extended development program to take advantage of DirectX 11 and is now scheduled to be published in December 2009.

Criterion Games has announced that the Burnout Paradise Big Surf Island expansion pack will be available to download on June 11 for £9.99 on the PlayStation Network and for 1000 MS Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

E3 2009: WipEout HD gets Expansion

Sony has released details regarding a new expansion pack for WipEout HD on the PS3.

Titled 'Fury', this expansion will feature eight new tracks, 13 new ships and three new game modes two of which will feature online as well.

These additions also come with more standardised changes such as new trophies, better online support and a re-styled front-end.

No more details are available, however the expansion will feature at E3 this week.

This winter arrives Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth on DS, a spin-off from the more traditional roots of the series with puzzle-solving.

Monumental Games will be tuning up a new MotoGP, presumably it's 2010 edition, and will release on Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime in the future with more info "in the coming months". E3?

Midnight Club: Los Angeles South Central DLC Delayed on Xbox Live due to Bug

Rockstar Games informed Strategy Informer this morning that Midnight Club: Los Angeles South Central, set to release on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network today, has not yet gone live on Xbox LIVE due to an unforeseen bug in the title update.

"We are currently working as quickly as we can to resolve this issue, and we will notify everyone as soon as the DLC is made available. Thank you for understanding and your patience. Please note that this issue does not affect the DLC on the PlayStation Network - it is currently live and available for download." said a spokesperson.

RockStar announced this morning that the release date for Midnight Club: South Central has moved back a week to March 19th.

South Central comes with two components: the free South Central Map Expansion includes four new neighborhoods to explore that increases the total map size by one third, and a South Central Premium Upgrade that includes the map expansion plus new vehicles, parts, music, vinyls, hydraulics, and more.

Disney Interactive Studios today announced Split/Second, an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show. Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Developed by Black Rock Studio, Split/Second is scheduled to be released in early 2010 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Competitors in Split/Second don't just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track - they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.

Rockstar Games announces DLC for Midnight Club: Los Angeles

Rockstar Games announced today that downloadable content for Midnight Club: Los Angeles will arrive on March 12 for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This downloadable content offers more streets to race in with the free South Central Map Expansion which expands Midnight Club: Los Angeles by one third, adding four new neighborhoods to make up the iconic district of South Central.

The South Central Premium Upgrade is the total South Central experience for Midnight Club: Los Angeles delivering nine new vehicles, 26 new races, 12 new battle maps, 10 new delivery missions, over 100 new red light races, new vinyl packs, new parts, new music and more - all for the cost of $9.99.

Codemasters showcased some of the star players from its 2009 portfolio at its San Francisco Gamers Day event, held last night, Thursday 19th February. Featured titles included DiRT 2, FUEL, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Jumpgate Evolution, OverlordII, Overlord Dark Legend and Overlord Minions.

Set to deliver a thrilling off-roading experience with extreme sports attitude, new visuals released on Strategy Informer revealed that, in addition to Utah, Malaysia and London, DiRT 2's World Tour of off-road events will take racers to a massive, spectator-packed Los Angeles sports stadium for an exhilarating rally cross event: the "Stadium King Shootout".

US PSN to miss out on Outrun release

Sega has today confirmed that the North American PSN will not be receiving Outrun Online Arcade. Instead, the gorgeously vibrant update will be drifting onto Xbox 360's exclusively in the US, with the European receiving both the PSN and Live Arcade iterations as initially planned.

Although Sega UK declined to comment on the situation, many gamers in the US are sure to fiddle with their profile options in order to hit the European PSN in time for release.

PS3 Firmware 2.6 confirmed for tomorrow

Sony confirmed today that PS3 firmware 2.6 will be unveiled from tomorrow, January 21st.

In an official release, the company told us:

"Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is pleased to announce the latest upgrade (system software update version 2.60) for PlayStation 3. The PS3 experience is about more than just games; it's also about movies, pictures, music, video and more."

Sony clarifies 17 Million PSN Subscribers Stat

Sony has confirmed to MTV that the 17 million subscribers to the PSN, which was announced at CES09 last week, includes people who have created an account on the PSP, PS3 and website.

This number, which matches Xbox Live registrations, brought questions and skepticism that MTV decided to answer by contacting Sony.

Aaron Greenberg: Xbox 360 is the lead global platform for third parties

In an interview with Kotaku, Microsoft's Director of Product Management Aaron Greenberg said that the Xbox 360 has gained enough ground to cause a lead over PlayStation 3 third-party support, suggesting that companies will no longer feel the need to support the PlayStation.

"I think what we'll see is, as a result of how 2008 shaped up - the fact that we had our biggest year in history and we're now expanding our lead over the PS3 in a global basis - we went into 2008 with a solid lead over PS3 in North America, but Europe was a much closer race. Now, we're really expanding our lead there," he said. "We've become, by far, the lead global platform for third parties. I think you'll see us getting some benefits from that."

EA reveals support for PlayStation Home

Electronic Arts today announced its plans for the PlayStation Home Beta on the PlayStation 3, the 3D social gaming community that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences online. EA's support of the PlayStation Home Beta will begin with the EA SPORTS Complex, which is currently in development and is slated to launch this Spring.

"We're proud to support the PlayStation Home Beta with a very robust offering from EA SPORTS," said Peter Moore, president of EA SPORTS. David Reeves: Most important thing for Sony in 2009 is to turn a profit

An article on features leading industry figures talking about what they are looking forward to in 2009 for the PlayStation 3, with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves saying that turning a profit is Sony's main goal for this year.

"The most important thing for us as a company in the very short term is for us to start making money," said Reeves. "This is a pledge that was made last March and is something that we are still very much on target to achieve."

2008 was a fantastic year for gamers, and we will be looking forward to seeing what is in store for 2009, with the release of Resident Evil 5, Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Empire: Total War, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Ghostbusters, BioShock 2 and Overlord II among our personal favourites.
