EA launches fixes to repair 2.0 patch issues for SimCity

The 2.0 patch for SimCity intended to add the "Cheetah" game speed and other features and fixes has had its own bugs, and Electronic Arts has announced some new fixes will be released soon to repair them.

Total War: Rome II's ninth "full faction" Pontus available as "day one" free DLC

SEGA has revealed that a ninth faction, Pontus, has been worked on by Creative Assembly and will be offered as free content "day one" to PC gamers. This faction remains one of the "strongest Hellenistic states".

The shipped version features the official eight factions, but the studio had some spare time to create Pontus. An official Total War: Rome II release date is expected soon.

StarDrive exits beta today, Iceberg "overwhelmed" by pre-orders for 4X RTS

Indie developer Zero Sum Games today takes 4X real-time strategy StarDrive out of beta as it officially launches on Steam. The space empire builder has been lauded for its ship design and space combat.

Iceberg Interactive has been "overwhelmed by the volume" of pre-orders for StarDrive, which has been an "incredible journey" for Zero Sum. It's a "living product" with updates guaranteed.

War for the Overworld gets new delay to 'Bedrock Beta', final release affected

Backers of War for the Overworld have been told some unpleasant news, again, as the planned Bedrock Beta gets another delay as the team find themselves tackling some 'memory issues'.

This has caused "core features to be delayed" which are crucial for the beta. It also means the final release version will be running late too, but "an additional mini campaign" is being work on. Final release was due August 30th.

Creative Assembly has released a new gameplay video for Total War: Rome II, showing off "history’s most astounding ambushes in The Battle of Teutoburg Forest." The 11 minute trailer shows off the battle depicting the Roman Army caught in a carefully calculated assault by the massed tribesmen of Germania.

Ubisoft has announced that the English-language closed beta for Anno Online has been launched. The game, which bases itself on Anno 1404, is a free-to-play and browser-based strategy multiplayer game.

Danish developer Full Control has posted their proposal for Jagged Alliance: Flashback on Kickstarter, which looks to explore the roots of the turn-based series. They say it's "not a reboot, it's a reset!"

Full Control want to take Jagged Alliance back to its original gameplay style, which was for a "thinking man with lots of guns!" We get RPG elements, base management and 80's hair!

Publisher Mastertronic has announced a new retail compilation for the Xbox 360, Worms: The Revolution Collection, which will feature the Xbox Live Arcade title Worms Revolution and all of its downloadable content. In addition, the game has Worms 2: Armageddon and all of its DLC as a bonus.

Company of Heroes migrating to Steamworks May 7th, don't forget to download new version

Relic is migrating the original Company of Heroes game over to Steamworks, as it's going to be losing the servers provided by hosting company Quazal (which was bought by Ubisoft in 2010).

Relic want owners of the original game to switch over to the new Steamworks version of the game prior to the migration on May 7th, at which point all the old versions of the game will stop working:

Company of Heroes 2 has been deliberately designed to allow for post-launch DLC, Relic has stated. This is to combat the situation they had with the first game, where there was no room for continued support of the game outside expansions.

"We look at the original Company of Heroes, which we shipped 6 1/2 years ago, with no way of supporting that product over all of those years," Company of Heroes 2 Game Director Quinn Duffy said to Strategy Informer.

Uber Entertainment has released the first gameplay video of Planetary Annihilation, the spiritual successor to the classic RTS Total Annihilation. The game received its funding on Kickstarter.

Firaxis "not specifically looking" at next-gen hardware 'on Civ side at least'

All this new-fangled hardware for the next generation consoles wouldn't typically be something a PC centric developer like Firaxis would care much for, but producer Dennis Shirk says they're paying attention.

It's what Microsoft and Sony are coming up with that goes into the machines, like Kinect and PS4's new controllers with 'Move built in'. They're becoming "much more attractive" to PC studios.

Save Homeworld campaign fails to secure IP, pledges refunded to backers

Indie studio teamPixel has not managed to secure the Homeworld IP from the THQ auction as of April 15th, as they couldn't remain competitive against the other bidders. Pledged funds will be returned.

The new owner of the space RTS franchise isn’t known but is likely to be announced around mid-May, when the IP officially changes hands. teamPixel will now pursue their own space RTS.
