THQ decides to scrap several franchises

We've got more news from Financial documents today, but this one bring some sour news to the gaming industry. THQ has decided to scrap a few of its titles, and two franchises will also be wiped out of the development line.

Stuntman Ignition was released towards the end of last year and received average reviews from the media, for this reason THQ has scraped the series.

Ignition Entertaiment and Yuke's sign deal for NEVES in Europe

Ignition Entertainment announced today an agreement with Yuke's which will see the puzzle game NEVES released for the Nintendo DS in Europe for an early 2008.

“NEVES is one of those puzzle games that once you start to play it is difficult to put down,” said Ajay Chadha, President of Ignition Entertainment’s US Operations. “So few new games within the genre hit the mark, but NEVES is the perfect choice for any puzzle fan and will capture the imagination and quickly become a favourite.”

Zavvi set to expand games area

Zavvi has told MCV that they'll be increasing their games area by 15 percent, taking shelf space from the music section.

The reason for this increase is because during the Christmas season the store saw a big increase in the amount of game products that got sold. This will mark the second time its increased its range of gaming products.

Nintendo of America reveals release date list

Nintendo of America has released a huge list that contains release dates for their upcoming Wii and DS games as well as some third party ones that are currently in development. These dates aren't for the European version, unfortunately for us they are US dates but they should give us a good idea of when they are nearing release in the UK.

We would like to point out some of our favorite ones on this list for the Wii, Alone in the Dark is coming in March from Atari, Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel from Nintendo are set to arrive in spring and LucasArts LEGO: Indiana Jones is also set for a release in spring whilst Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be hitting stores in the summer.

Game's acquisition of Gamestation almost complete

The Competition Commission has confirmed that Game's acquisition of Gamestation is almost set and that the market shouldn't expect to see any substantial lessening of competition for the supply of gaming software, consoles and related accessories in the UK.

Game said: "The board of The GAME Group is pleased to note that the Competition Commission, in its final report published today, has unconditionally cleared the completed acquisition of Gamestation,"

Assassin's Creed Altaïr's Chronicles for DS releases in February

Ubisoft announced today that Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles, set for release on the DS, will be available at retailers nationwide in February.

Assassin’s Creed Altaïr’s Chronicles is the direct prequel of the critically acclaimed console title Assassin’s Creed, where players discover more about the protagonist Altaïr and his deep history. The game features a fully realized 3D world in which players will travel and battle through four cities of the Crusade’s Middle East, using acrobatic moves and exhilarating combo attacks that mix sword skills and high-flying kicks.

Capcom announced that the latest installment of its courtroom drama series, Apollo Justice is scheduled to be released in North America on February 12th, 2008. This will fourth title in the series and is said to feature new characters.

Eidos announced this morning that they'll also be developing Tomb Raider: underworld for the Wii, DS and PS2. Originally it was only announced for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, but due to these changes the release date has been pushed back to Q4 2008.
