Video games can't replicate board games "time-honored tradition"

In a keynote piece EA's Chip Lange has declared there's "no replacement" for the traditional board game, even in this spiralling digital age.

He explains that board games shouldn't be targeted for extinction and succession but rather employ a "partner strategy." Digital board games are no piece of cake.

A demo of the upcoming co-op survival shooter that pits you and comrades against a horde of dead but not quite dead foes is on its way.

The game is being released November 18th through Steam and infecting retailers on the 21st. Left 4 Dead is being released on PC and Xbox 360.

The upcoming squad-based shooter set in the C&C universe was expected this fall before being pushed back to 2010 with little explanation.

Now it's revealed that EA LA's brass just weren't happy with how things were shaping up and have decided to can the whole project, as well as some staffers leaving.

Alan Wake trailer debuts at Max Payne premiere confirms Remedy

It's been given the nod; a new trailer for Alan Wake will be airing at the Max Payne movie premiere in Finland on October 15.

Max Payne was one of Remedy's first ever videogame creations so it shows they've still got a soft spot for the troubled detective. Ah bless, now how about a bleedin' release date?!

Eidos Interactive today announced the return of the war-torn jungles of Vietnam in Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, brutal and twisted psychological first person shooter, coming to disturb your Christmas.

At the height of the Vietnam War, a covert ops cargo plane carrying a top-secret consignment known only as 'Whiteknight' is lost over the deepest, uncharted jungles. Special Ops soldiers are immediately dispatched to the scene to retrieve the top secret shipment and one-by-one they disappear without a trace... until one month later, one of them suddenly walks out of the jungle.

Ship Now, Add Co-Op Later for Christmas Titles

Shipping first and patching later is becoming more and more the norm instead of the exception. Recent stories indicate that both Fable 2, by Microsoft Game Studio, and LittleBigPlanet, by Sony will both ship without some of the features promised by developers.

The official MGS blog, Gamerscore, said recently that Fable 2 "will be able to play the single player and local co-op on day one, they are still making tweaks to the online co-op. Don't worry, it is definitely still coming". The blog post also adds that they expect to patch the game the first week after release to include the online co-op play.

Major Nelson has updated his blog with word that the current Xbox LIVE maintenance is going to take a little longer than expected, and a further update on the situation will be with us soon.

"The LIVE maintenance is taking longer than expected. I'll have an update at 0200 PT."

UPDATE: Xbox Live is now back online.

Hollywood Film Producer to Work With EA on New Titles

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Electronic Arts and Hollywood film director, Zach Snyder will announce today that Snyder has agreed to help develop three games for EA. This deal is also expected to include the option to turn the three unannounced titles into feature films by Snyders’ production company, Cruel & Unusual Films.

PES 2009 demo for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC available on October 7th

Konami has announced that a demo for PES 2009 will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on 2nd October – that's this Thursday.

Due for release on 17th October, PES 2009 marks the triumphant return of what is regarded as the most realistic football title for any format. Users will be treated to an expansive playable demo of the new title, with the bespoke version offering a full five-minute Exhibition multiplayer match.

58 percent increase in XBLA sales during Summer of Arcade program

Microsoft has announced that the five week Summer of Arcade program on the Xbox Live Arcade, which saw the release of great titles like Braid, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Castle Crushers and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 was a big success that saw a 58 percent increase in unique members purchasing titles on the XBLA.
