Hard Reset will receive a few new content additions today, as Flying Wild Hog has announced that patch 1.2 is now available to download.

Survival Mode is perhaps the biggest piece of content that this new patch provides, which challenges the player to survive wave after wave of robotic onslaught.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that DC Universe Online is now officially free-to-play. Starting today, all players can create their own superhero (or supervillain) and join the legendary DC Comics characters in a fight of good versus evil.

Namco Bandai's games software division has rebounded in a big way in the past six months. After posting a loss of ¥1.9 billion (14.4M GBP) last year from March-September 2010, the division registered ¥28 billion (224M GBP) in sales during the same period in 2011.

Research firm Newzoo is convinced that Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar's upcoming open world game, will be download only, rather than a retail game, and that "the boxed GTA V version will contain a collectible piece of merchandise and a download code. No disc."

Developer Urbanscan's Premier Manager 2012 will be releasing on PlayStation 3 and PC this month with its "unique RPG-style" levelling of characters. It releases via the PlayStation Network.

It sports a "brand new memory system" that has players and staff remember our "controversial decisions" as the big cheese. It also features a "real-time graphical negotiation system".

Publisher Square Enix has significantly upgraded their profit forecast for the six months ending September 30th, going from 1.5 billion to 3.7 billion YEN, thanks to exceeded expectations.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution played a big role in pushing those figures up, as did growth in Square's smartphone, social and online markets. Euro exchange rate hurting though.

Capcom beat-em-up evangelist Seth Killian promises we shouldn't have to wait a decade for Street Fighter V to punch and kick its way into our brawler hearts, unlike Street Fighter IV.

He jokes it'll "be before 2019," unless they wait until 2020 "just to screw me and make me look like an ass." Killian won't discuss ideas in case "some other game cops" them.

Volition has revealed the system requirements for the PC version of The Saints Row: The Third, as well as some of the unique PC-only features that will be available on the Steam version of the game.

The developer is going out of its way to make up for the PC port of Saints Row 2, stating flatly, "Saints Row: The Third on PC is not a port, and it's our goal here at Volition to prove that to our PC fans. We hope you enjoy the game when it releases to the public on November 15th!"

Lineage II will be going free-to-play

NCsoft has announced that one of the largest MMOs in the world, Lineage II, will be going free-to-play. The conversion will be timed with the release of its upcoming update, Goddess of Destruction. The update is the largest in the MMO's history, which NCsoft claims features more than 400 hours of new content.

Silicon Knights confirms layoffs, blames Activision

Yesterday, it was reported that Silicon Knights had slashed 74% of its 97 employees. The chief financial officer of the developer, Mike Mays, has confirmed that there have been severe layoffs at the company, but the number of firings were less drastic than the initial figures.

Instead of the reported 72 laid off from the developer, the number of employees fired is 45, leaving 40 left employed at the studio.

EA insists Origin is not spyware

Electronic Arts' digital distribution service, Origin, has been viewed with no small amount of distrust from gamers, and a new report by German periodical Der Spiegel has raised the ire of the gaming community, claiming that Origin grants EA the ability to access other EA programs without notifying users.

This gives EA's “partners” free rein to collect information on “IP addresses, usage data, software, equipment, software usage and existing hardware peripherals” for marketing purposes.

Valve has decided to delay the open beta of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, thanks to feedback from veteran Counter-Strike gamers. The beta had been scheduled to launch this past October.

While DICE may have started with PC as the "lead SKU of the game," studio boss Karl-Magnus Troedsson reveals they changed it to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 midway.

This was so the team could "get all the versions done for release," he said. The studio's ambition is to use the "power of each individual platform" to squeeze out as much as they can.

We had a chat with EA Partners executive producer Jeff Gamon about Syndicate, and he says they've been "trying to get it made for ages," and Starbreeze aligned as "ideal partners".

There's been a "core of people" trying to get Syndicate up and running again, but they "never set out to 'remake'" the classic IP - it was about bringing it back "to a new audience."

DOOM 3's source code "packaged and tested," awaits word from lawyers

One final hurdle stands between id Software's DOOM 3 source code and a public release, and it's the lawyers. The studio just needs to nail down legal specifics before launching it.

QuakeCon 2011 held the news that the source code would be set free after Rage's release in October. It'll allow player mods to be stand alone games in their own right.

EVE Online developer CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson admits at first the backlash from their community was "disregarded" as just a vocal minority; as "some noise in the channel".

However the space loving studio learnt that it was "something that was really emotionally important," and reminded them how "really connected" people in EVE Online are.
