Everquest transitions to free-to-play

As expected, Sony has announced that the original Everquest has officially been transitioned to the free-to-play model.

"Through 18 successful expansions and countless other game updates, EverQuest has forged its place in history amongst the MMO and online game elite," celebrated Everquest director of development Dave Georgeson.

McFarlane: Amalur MMO coming later this year

Comic book artist and 38 Studios art director Todd McFarlane as revealed in an interview that an MMO based on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be coming later this year.

The MMO is currently under the code name "Project Copernicus".

GAME sends out closure letters to gamers with pre-orders

GAME has started sending out letters informing pre-order customers of specific store closures, and forwarding them to GAME and GameStation stores which will be handling their order.

F1 2012 coming to PC, 360, PS3 in Summer 2012

Codemasters has announced that F1 2012, the official game of the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship, will be coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Summer. One of the highlighted new features is the Young Driver Test mode, where players will be introduced to the world of Formula One through a range of tutorials explaining how to handle F1's cars.

Avengers Chronicles DLC announced for Pinball FX 2, Marvel Pinball

Zen Studios has announced a new series of pinball tables for Pinball FX 2 and Marvel Pinball. The Avengers Chronicles will feature four new tables which will be released individually and later as a DLC pack. Unlike other pinball tables, each of these tables tell their part of a continuing story.

Markus Persson - who? - Minecraft's 'Notch' has said letting Steam dominate the PC digital market is "a bit dangerous" for all concerned. It needs healthy competition to prevent a monopoly.

He finds the "idea of one platform a bit scary" despite being a fan of Valve and Steam. He calls Origin's ability to do "things badly" an impressive feat given 8 years of Steam.

Iron Front: Liberation 1944 out May 25th

Deep Silver and X1 Software's tactical shooter Iron Front: Liberation 1944 has been given its official street date of May 25th for North America and Europe. It's exclusive to PC.

It's based off the engine used in ARMA II Operation Arrowhead. It's set in southern Poland during the Soviet offensive in the summer of 1944. We play as Germans or Russians.

BioWare: Decisions in The Old Republic "really matter, even the small ones"

Lead PvP designer Gabe Amatangelo for Star Wars: The Old Republic says the story arc decisions we make will be impacting our character's future. Updates will continue class stories.

We can expect these kinds of content updates "sooner than later." Sith and Smuggler story choices "will certainly carry over" into future developments, teases Amatangelo.

Ubisoft's Rocksmith hits UK shores September 14th

The North American exclusivity for Ubisoft's Rocksmith ends this September when it finally drops the other side of the Atlantic and into British gamers' laps. No plastic peripherals.

Rocksmith isn't about hitting coloured buttons but actually learning to play a real guitar. It's for those "serious about guitar learning and playing." It's for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

EA responds to UK's Watchdog on FIFA 12 disconnections

The UK's Watchdog program, designed to bring public awareness to consumer right abuses, aired a show targeting EA's FIFA 12 and its Ultimate Team online mode of play.

Specifically it was after disconnections gamers have been suffering, and accused that EA "refused to take responsibility," dismissing that "only a tiny minority" were affected.

Crytek: "Huge mind share" on Homefront 2, "can make a big splash"

Despite the original Homefront from Kaos Studios getting a so-so Metacritic reception, Crysis developer Crytek believes their "quality attached to it" can help the sequel amaze fans.

The world they built, its setting and where they want it to go - it's "really cool," declared the studio. Hints were given of the sequel taking place in London, but "it's the team's choice."

Operation Raccoon City to get free DLC in April

Capcom has announced on the company's official blog that there would be some free downloadable content coming in April for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which will be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the 20th March.

Rumor: Bethesda to unveil The Elder Scrolls MMO in May

Tom's Guide reports that an industry source has leaked to the site that Bethesda will be revealing a new MMO based on the Elder Scrolls IP. The MMO would allegedly take place 1,000 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, in what fans of the series know as the Second Era.

Baldur's Gate I & II Enhanced Editions officially announced by Atari

Baldur's Gate is back, as Atari has officially announced Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition, for release this Summer 2012.

There is no other information about the games save the titles, but the "enhanced edition" seems to indicate they'll be the same original Baldur's Gate titles - but with updated graphics, sound, widescreen format and HD resolution.

Mass Effect first person shooter was in works in 2010

Apparently, BioWare and Electronic Arts had planned a first person shooter based on the Mass Effect license. The game was called Mass Effect Team Assault, and it was worked on by BioWare's Montreal studio in 2010. The multiplayer in Mass Effect 3 is what remains of that project.

Mass Effect writer Drew Karpyshyn revealed his original intent for the ending of Mass Effect 3, which involved the concept of Dark Energy, which was hinted at in the previous two games, such as on Haelstrom during Tali's recruitment mission, when she commented that the planet's sun was an advanced age for no scientific reason.

The revival of Medal of Honor is all about authenticity for the house of EA, as it 'separates it apart' from the competition, and they take it "very seriously." They'd be a "floating gun" otherwise.

It's all founded on "respecting the soldiers" and getting their point of view in the story and setting, but they're "not making a simulator." The team are after an "immersive, authentic feeling".

Wasteland 2 raises Kickstarter goal of $900k in 48 hours

It's done! Brian Fargo's inXile Entertainment can begin work on Wasteland 2 once the Kickstarter project comes to a close as it's raised the needed $900k to begin work in just 2 days.

As of now it's hovering at $975,463 from 16,933 backers. It launched March 13th to get community backing for a direct sequel to 1988's Wasteland. It's a "dream" declares Fargo.

Designer "ashamed" of 'Hook Man experiment' for Resident Evil 4

Before Resident Evil 4 took the shape it did, designer Yasuhisa Kawamura wrote and helped design a very different tale in a bid to "make biohazard 4 scarier" - it went through "several iterations".

In the end it collapsed as there were "many obstacles" and it was "deemed too expensive." What became Resident Evil 4 was the "best idea out of all of them," claimed Kawamura-san.
