Following THQ's recent announcement that they would abandon family-oriented games, the publisher has confirmed that a new round of layoffs have been made, mostly in the publisher's administration and publishing departments.

CD Projekt RED is refuting reports made yesterday that the developer was working on The Witcher 3 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for release in 2013. Gampur, a gaming website had claimed that CPR had made the announcement during their press conference last night.

Minecraft adds ocelots, kittens and smarter skeletons

The latest update for Minecraft adds ocelots, a dwarf breed of leopard found in Central America and Mexico. The ocelots come in three varieties, as well as kitten versions who can be charmed with a little fish.

Even more importantly, the new update improves the AI for skeletons, who will act with more self-preservation. They're avoid fatal sunlight by trying to get into water or hide in the shade, instead of burning to death.

Paradox: Sword of the Stars 2 was "a big failure"

Fredrick Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive, has admitted that releasing Sword of the Stars 2 in the state it was in was a "big mistake", and that the game was a failure.

Speaking at the recent Paradox Convention, Wester said: "Sometimes youíre stuck in a situation where you can only choose between two really bad outcomes. Looking back Iím not sure what I could have done."

Sword of the Stars II was released at the end of October last year...

New 1.4 beta Skyrim patch now available on Steam

A few days ago, a 1.4 beta patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was available on Steam for players to download. Bethesda has announced that a new version of the 1.4 beta is now available.

Japanese artist Kei Suwabe has an odd but cool hobby, where he turns various pop culture icons into Street Fighter characters.

Some of the more unusual ones he has done include a demonic looking Ronald McDonald, a heroic Colonel Sanders (of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame) and an ambiguously gay Waldo (from Where's Waldo).

Gotham City Impostors beta now open to all

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that the Gotham City Impostors beta is now open to the public for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users.

Xbox 360 users must go to the official site and register to receive a code to download the beta client. PlayStation 3 users only need to visit the PlayStation Network Store to download the client; no key is required.

Ubisoft announces Rayman Origins for PC, coming 30th March, 2012

Ubisoft has announced that Rayman Origins is in development for the PC and will be released on 30th March, 2012.

Players can control Rayman in the solo campaign, or have up to three friends join in or leave any time as Globox or as one of the two Teensies in the offline multiplayer mode using four controllers on one computer.

Square-Enix bringing Eidos titles to GoG.com

Square-Enix is bringing its library of Eidos titles to Good Old Games, the DRM-free digital distributor. The first two games to hit the service are the classic Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition and the original Hitman: Codename 47.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Delayed, set for Autumn 2012

Previously-announced for spring 2012, It seems that SEGA has decided to delay Aliens: Colonial Marines for an autumn 2012 release.

The game's official website lists the change, although SEGA hasn't confirmed this with us yet. We've sent them a message to see if it's ready to confirm anything.

California pays ESA $1.3M over videogame legislation bill defeat

The taxpayers of the state of California will be paying $1.35M to ESA in legal fees for the 2005 videogame legislation bills, California Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793, that were introduced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and subsequently ruled unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.

Ubisoft: "2012's Assassin's Creed will be the biggest yet"

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot claims that this year's Assassin's Creed game will be the biggest one in the series so far.

Talking with MCV, Guillemot is confident that the next title will calm any feelings that annual instalments in the series are starting to dilute the franchise. It's believed that Ezio Auditore will not be the main protagonist in the next game, but a new, fresh, hero will take his place.

ESRB rates Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 on Consoles, PC

Although SEGA has been very quiet about Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, an ESRB rating suggests that a release date may be revealed soon.

The title was rated "E for Everyone" on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Nordic Games Signs Publishing Deal for Alan Wake PC

Nordic Games today announced a publishing deal for the boxed PC version of Remedyís upcoming Action Thriller Alan Wake. The Signal and The Writer DLC from the Xbox 360 version will be included as a bonus for the boxed PC release.

"It goes without saying that we are very happy and proud to work together with some of the greatest talents and artists of the games industry", commented Lars Wingefors, CEO of Nordic Games GmbH.

Publisher Merge Games has announced that their strange, genre-defying Minecraft-meets-Metroid game Terraria will be getting a retail release as a Collector's Edition.

The Collector's Edition will cost £19.95, and will include an exclusive in-game item, a poster, a key-ring and trading cards.

Prolific MMO publisher NCSoft has filed suit against Tera developer Bluehole Studio, claiming theft of intellectual property. The developer is comprised of former NCSoft employees, and the publisher is accusing them of stealing "copious amounts of confidential and proprietary NCsoft information, computer software, hardware, and artwork relating to Lineage 3," and using them to create Tera.

It seems that Netflix won't be adding videogames to its popular North American movie rental and live streaming service anytime soon. The company had plans to augment its massive distribution network to rent out videogames as a direct rival to GameFly, through a new Qwikster brand.
