Shuhei Yoshida of Sony Worldwide Studios has revealed they're making money off the PlayStation 3 hardware for the first time, imagine that.

They're not printing "huge money" from each sale yet but now at least they "aren't bleeding" out on the corporate rug. Trying to "catch up" production.

The day has arrived for Sony's premium subscription service for PlayStation Network to go live, and it does so with this latest firmware update.

PlayStation Plus can now invade your living room. Also added with v3.40 is a Photo Gallery for sharing pics and a 5 star content rating system.

Kid Icarus Uprising's Masahiro Sakurai says we've got a creativity problem in the industry, particularly when it comes to the first-person shooter.

The main issue is that "controls are always the same" in established genres, so it feels like you take an "empty shell" and swap out "story and art".

Developer Twisted Pixel has revealed on their website how they've "just finished a contract" with MMO studio Turbine for something on console.

It's all still "hush hush" right now and they can't talk more on their "top-secret game." It's "intended for consoles" they tease, and they can't wait.

Thanks to Santa Monica Studios' "brilliant idea" to upgrade God of War I and II to HD for PS3, Sony plans for more high-def collection releases.

Already 'The Sly Collection' has been unveiled featuring PS2 Sly Cooper titles beefed up with HD, trophies, 3D and Move support. More to come.

EA Chief Operating Officer John Schappert, formerly of Microsoft and Xbox 360, has praised the PS3 platform for being "on fire" in the marketplace.

The publisher is "platform agnostic," noting they sell on both next-gens more "than anybody." Sony's PS3 is doing "very strong right now."

EA Sports mega boss Peter Moore claims that gamers, that's you and me, "understand totally" why EA is implementing the Online Pass system.

He's not sure that we're "angry" about it because we know "what's going on" in the marketplace. Part of his job is getting us to keep games.

THQ is hoping to build up buzz for Red Faction: Armageddon by releasing a Red Faction Arcade game for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live three months before the release of the game.

"There's going to be a Red Faction Arcade game that ships about three or four months before Armageddon." said THQ's VP of core games Danny Bilson. "What's interesting is that we will sell it to the fans, it will have content you can download that is TV show-related, it will build up to the new game and also we can use it to drive pre-orders, too; we can give codes and aspects of it, we can give the whole thing away."

Yes a Resident Evil 6 is under way but Jun Takeuchi who produced RE5 won't be having a hand in it, which is something he had said before.

Takeuchi-san is busy elsewhere in the Capcom kingdom, and firstly Japanese devs have a lot "we must do" to change for the better he says.

The setting is "not interesting" to Patrice Desilets, though "we could" and it "would be fine" he notes. A Japanese backdrop looks quite unlikely too.

THQ: "Way more exciting" ways for ads than TV, waste of money

Danny Bilson of publisher THQ "severely" questions the use of TV advertising for videogames, saying you spend big for very little return.

He'd rather spend cash on outdoor, Internet or "direct-to-consumer" ad campaigns because they're more effective. An exception is TV branded titles.

Thanks to an ex-employee of the Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics we have some rather fetching concept artwork for their next big title.

An online resume notes it as "third person urban action" game but that it was also "canceled before completion." The studio is hiring.

Capcom delays Dead Rising 2

Capcom announced this morning that Dead Rising 2 has been delayed, and will now be released throughout Europe on October 1, 2010. That's a month later than previously announced.

There's been no word on why the delay was made.

Creator and director Hiromichi Tanaka of Final Fantasy XIV Online says that Xbox Live was a no go because of the network's "closed environment".

They couldn't deliver the same FFXIV on Xbox 360 as on PC, so they choose PS3. Champions Online from Cryptic suffered similar defeat.

UK retailer GAME has already lowered PlayStation Move's sales tag to GBP 34.99 and it's sub-controller to GBP 24.99 - offering the cheapest deal.

They've also now added a list of Move supported titles in their catalogue. PlayStation Move is set to hit the shops in September, before rival Kinect.
