Free DLC for Mass Effect 2 on launch day

Bioware has confirmed via Twitter that it will be releasing free DLC ready for the launch of Mass Effect 2 on January 26.

"Addressing rumors: BioWare will not be charging extra for any new Mass Effect 2 content on launch day. More DLC details next week." said the firm on Twitter.

BBFC spoils Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY surprise, likely has DLC

A listing from the BBFC has revealed Eidos submitted a Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of The Year edition, and unsurprisingly rated a 15.

There are no specifics on what the GOTY edition could include outside the standard game, however the free DLC offered is most likely.

Lasky: EA "has destroyed" over $11bn market value, all "since JR"

Ex-EA man Mitch Lasky has blogged a damning piece of EA's haemorrhaging of market value over these last few years, noting $11bn is gone.

Lasky says it's "amazing" the EA board continues to back "existing management", pointing the finger at reins-holder CEO John Riccitiello.

Steve Papoutsis is executive producer on Dead Space 2, and he's revealed they need to pick the minds of fans for Collector's Edition ideas.

He says if "we were to put out" a fancier version, what goodies should they include inside? The usuals are mentioned - "make them good!"

Christian Svensson of Capcom admits that they delayed Dark Void from September this January solely because Halo 3: ODST was launching.

They didn't want it crushed, understandably. Those "extra couple months" weren't wasted though, they got "PhysX integration" for PC.

NPD: US games sales hit $20.2bn end of 2009, an 8 percent decline

It's that time again when the NPD gets all number crazy, showing us what consumers blow their cash on. 2009 raked in $20.2bn in US game sales.

That plump figure though is down 8 percent from 2008's $21.4 billion. NPD says big sales "a positive move" for games to recover in 2010.

An anonymous source from Rockstar Vancouver has said how troubled Max Payne 3 is, much like San Diego's Red Dead Redemption.

They also allege that "virtually everything" from the 'Rockstar wives' letter "applies" to their experience at Rockstar Vancouver. Oh dear.

Publisher Ubisoft broke some more hearts recently, announcing that the long awaited Splinter Cell: Conviction is to be delayed yet again.

The top bosses want it polished more, as 'looking brilliant' just doesn't cut it. It was due February 26th but now lies somewhere in FY2010.

Creative Assembly has confirmed that Napoleon: Total War will be released on February 23, 2010.

Mark O'Connell, community manager for the Total War series, confirmed the release date on the official forums.

That strange game-making tool Kodu, talked about way back when, has just got its public beta for PC. We're all developers now, sort of.

Microsoft has also announced a new Lips game for Xbox 360, subtitled 'Party Classics'. It's got Avatars in it, with unlockables for them.

Yves Guillemot, big boss of Ubisoft, has pledged they'll be devoting more resources to the next-gen consoles and their "major" franchises.

The love affair with casual gaming is over, with less "exposure to the DS" planned. Ubi drops fiscal sales target from EUR 1bn to 860m.

Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey has said John Riccitiello's "inability to execute" well this year could spell the end of his CEO reign at EA.

It's those shares not rising enough, compared with rivals THQ and Activision. Michael Pachter notes investors "feel betrayed" by bosses.

1C says retail "forcing PC games out", entirely digital by "Q1 2011"

Darryl Still of publisher 1C blames retailers for stuffing boxed PC titles at the "back of the store" with hardly "any exposure" to consumers.

He claims there's "still demand" but retail care little. It's the "limited" options driving publishers digital. PC games all digital by 2011.

Thanks to the online CV of BioWare's Rob Bartel, we know the developer has an action title hidden away somewhere with multiplayer infused.

Bartel is both Principal and Lead Multiplayer Designer for this secret action gem. This could be an all-new IP, or something revived perhaps?

Dragon Age: Origins has downloadable content, but this latest piece from developer BioWare is having some trouble getting out the door.

First is was delayed because of a last minute issue found in certification, but now a title fix for Xbox 360's Dragon Age has led to it being pulled.

Ubisoft announced today that registration is now open for the beta test of the upcoming PC sequel The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom. The beta will start January 19th and will offer the tutorial missions of the single-player campaign as well as skirmish maps for multiplayer modes or games against the AI.

Ubisoft has confirmed that its upcoming disaster-themed action-adventure game, I Am Alive, has been delayed into the next fiscal year, which runs April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.

Details on the title are very slim, but it has been confirmed for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Ubisoft has confirmed that it's working on a new game in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series, along with a new Driver game.

Details are extremely slim, but it has also mentioned a new episode for Assassin's Creed, which will contain an online multiplayer mode. We don't know if this will be released as a new game or if it'll be DLC.

Ubisoft revealed today that its stealth-action sequel Splinter Cell: Conviction and RTS R.U.S.E have both been delayed.

Splinter Cell: Conviction will now be released in April 2010, not February 26, for both Xbox 360 and PC.
