The developer behind Warcraft 3's popular Defense of the Ancients: Allstars mod has announced that it's now leading a team at Half-Life developer Valve, and hinted that there will be "great news for DotA fans."

"I finally have all the resources needed to do some very exciting stuff that you guys will love," says IceFrog. "As I've said many times in the past and especially after today's developments, I am very excited about DotA's future!"

Konami to revive 'Rocket Knight' series

Konami today revealed plans to revive their 16-bit Rocket Knight series on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Konami producer Tomm Hullet told 1UP, "The idea is that there haven't been any games these past 15 years simply because Sparkster hasn't had any adventures."

Activision "didn't want Modern Warfare" says Infinity Ward

Infinity Ward has revealed that Activision did not originally want Call of Duty 4 to be a Modern Warfare game.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine, Infinity Ward boss Vince Zampella announced that the team had been wanting to produce a modern warfare game for years, but Activision held them back.

Visceral Games could be working on a Jack the Ripper game as its third title, according to trademarks and sources close to EA reports the LA Times.

The firm is currently working on Dead Space 2 and Dante's Inferno, so it's likely that this Jack the Ripper game won't be released until sometime in 2010 or 2011.

SCEE: "Eight Days and Getaway 3 put on hold, not cancelled"

SCEE Studio London producer and Creative Art Director Nicolas Doucet has revealed that Eight Days and The Getaway 3 haven't been completely cancelled, but have in fact been put aside.

Original reports confirmed that both titles had been cancelled so the developer could put all its efforts into EyePet and SingStar, but will development on these games continue once EyePet is released?

Ubisoft acquires TrackMania developer Nadeo

Ubisoft today announced the acquisition of the development studio Nadeo, creator of TrackMania, the popular multiplayer car racing game for the PC.

Nadeo started up in Paris during 2000 and is well known for its multiplayer technology. TackMania is still reaching over 700,000 uniques players a month and fans have made over 15 million custom tracks since 2008. It was also the first eSport franchise for racing games.

Bioware has announced that a Dragon Age: Origins Character Creator will be released on October 13th, giving PC users the chance to design their characters in anticipation of the game's release in November.

"What we have managed to do is get the awesome BioWare dev dudes/dudettes to break off the Dragon Age: Origins Character Creator from the main game so you can download it as a separate application to your PC," explained BioWare community coordinator Chris Priestly.

According to several companies that have spoken to GamesIndustry.biz, there is huge concern over the lack of commissions for 2010-11. As things stand, many feel that next year will arrive with a staleness and unoriginality that the industry isn't known for.

As publishers refrain from commissioning new ideas in favour of their core products, we could be in for a dull ride post 2009.

As Modern Warfare 2 gains momentum before release, gamers everywhere will be salivating at the news of the multiplayer maps and Achievements being uncovered.

This announcement comes after the release of a brand new trailer, and gives us map names such as "Rust", "Terminal", "High Rise" and "Scrapyard" to ponder over. The game's Special Ops missions also include match types such as "Body Count", "Snatch and Grab" and "Suspension".

Black Bean Games have announced that it's working on a new World Rally Championship game for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game is being developed by Black Bean Games and its in-house studio Milestone, who brought us MotoGP and SBK Superbike.

Some rather ambiguous wording has left speculation in its wake, that the upcoming MMO from BioWare and LucasArts could be micro-transaction supported. It's one possibility.

The other is that it merely refers to in-game currency. The signups for closed beta testing mention "points" that are "non-refundable and non-tradable," and used in a "Game store".

It's a heart warming story that surprisingly hasn't been picked up by Disney yet. A Left 4 Dead modder by the name of Joe W-A has raised $3000 to fly out Valve bosses.

He started the 'Fly Gabe Newell' campaign after he quizzed him why he never got flown to Valve HQ, despite L4D2 boycotters getting airfare. Gabe Newell and Erik Johnson are Down Under.

Microsoft's Games For Windows label doesn't have support from Stardock Games, as CEO Brad Wardell says if they ever took over PC gaming then he's "done" making them.

Wardell isn't amused by their current strategy of title updates, especially if you go over the limit because then "you have to pay money." Luckily for Stardock many still avoid the label.

EA's Spore has "truly original" potential, Fox partner for feature film

Publisher EA and Twentieth Century Fox have combined might to get Spore on the big silver screen, with Ice Age director Chris Wedge attached. Spore "provides the potential".

Spore is the creation of Maxis and Will Wright which has players design and control their very own species, and eventually a space faring civilization. EA and Fox see a film in it.

CD Projekt acquired by firm Optimus, dev enters stock exchange

The Witcher developer CD Projekt has been bought by the Polish tech firm Optimus, with the company paying in shares which are now owned by the studios current bosses.

This has effectively given CD Projekt a way to become a publicly-traded company so they can get themselves on the Warsaw stock exchange, without as much red tape hassle.

Executive producer Gavin Raeburn has left publisher Codemasters after having successfully rebooted two racing franchises. He was "at the top" of his game.

Raeburn leaves "an incredibly talented team" behind at Codemasters that he put together. They include "key players" who will push their "racing portfolio forward." He's wished well.

Empire: Total War's 1.5 patch to include 5 maps, don't need Warpath

Developer Creative Assembly will say "thank you" to the community by including five new multiplayer maps free when the 1.5 patch goes live, which is when Warpath retails.

Warpath is the mini-expansion to Empire: Total War. The patch is said to include significant tweaks to the game AI and the new maps support "all team sizes". Warpath here "soon."
