EA hired some PR goons to think up something viral, the result was 20-hired 'Christian protestors' who picketed E3 in opposition to Dante's Inferno.

Naturally this marketing ploy has now backfired a little, with Catholic Video Gamers saying they "ought to work on making this game" something greater than a GOW-rip off. Ouch.

Blizz tease 80-player battleground, Isle of Conquest in next patch

World of Warcraft needs more war, so team Blizz have unveiled the 'Isle of Conquest' which pits Horde and Alliance against one another in teams of up to 40.

To achieve victory players will need to "make use of the island's unique strategic locations" that reward special bonuses. It uses a reinforcement system similar to Alterac Valley.

Assassin's Creed II set for 20th November in the UK

Ubisoft announced today that Assassin's Creed II will be released on 20th November in the UK for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Assassin's Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Renaissance Italy. Ezio befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a master assassin.

US game revenue slips under $1bn in May, "continues to struggle"

NPD figures have revealed a gloomy statistic, US consumer spending on videogames in May fell below $1 billion, which it hasn't done since August '07.

From last year's $1.12bn, this year saw $863.3m. Hardware shrunk 30 percent, software fell 17 percent while peripherals are down 5 percent. 2009 is 'struggling' to compare with '08.

Blizzard date World of Warcraft regional finals, starts on June 26th

The Warcraft universe is big, so it stands to reason Blizzard should hold tournaments with cash prizes. The regionals will take place in Cologne, Germany.

They start on June 26th and end on the 28th, which will decide who gets to duke it out in the global finals this August in Anaheim, California. It's time for WoW 3v3 Arena and Warcraft III.

BioWare tease Mass Effect 2 "bloodbath" finale, choice dependant

Casey Hudson of BioWare has revealed that players who don't mind cutting corners could very well have quite a red ending, your squad mates "will die".

Previous chums will reappear in Mass Effect 2, but Shepard will be recruiting a whole team of "completely new characters," a much bigger squad a lot more varied in race and opinion.

Recently there's been some whisperings around Gears of War 2, more specifically that it could be blasting Locust on desktops, following in the original's footsteps.

Rod Fergusson, Epic man, has confirmed this to be total tosh. He's sorry but there's no hope to be had, reiterating they've said many times there "will not be a Gears 2 PC."

Gabe Newell has revealed not only are there reasons, but "very good" ones at that for Valve not to be discussing Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

Whatever they are though will have to remain unknown because it's something he "can't talk about yet," but he will eventually. Doug Lombardi reminds Newell they don't talk Ep.3 "publicly."

Battlestations' Volcano Map Pack goes live, extends to PC this 25th

Eidos have now released two new maps for Battlestations: Pacific over Xbox Live Marketplace, with a version to hit Games For Windows Live on June 25th.

Costing 560 Microsoft Points, the pack adds Volcano and Choke Point to the list of maps with Duel, Siege, Escort, Island Capture and Competitive modes for one or both; enjoy.

Altair and his bloody romp across the Holy Lands endeared many to his name, apparently over 8 million worldwide thought his antics were right for them.

Producer Patrice Desilets of Assassin's Creed 2 revealed the figure during E3, proving some really "loved the game." Meanwhile associate producer Pontbriand winks to a third.

Crystal Dynamics have had 25 staffers let go in San Francisco, which is all in step with Eidos' "continued drive" to squeeze out better efficiency.

In a case of 'does my studio make me look fat?' - Eidos told Lady Croft yes it does, lose 25. The US-based team had already knocked its roster down in January, after Underworld undersold.

Crytek didn't just start flinging assets about when it came to developing Crysis 2 for consoles, in fact it took them "2 to 3 years of technical research".

CryEngine 3 is the crowning achievement to get Crytek games on consoles, and the dev teams are now looking to make it "the best game that can exist" on each platform. Neat.

Shock, disbelief - these two words seldom travel through our minds when it comes to publisher EA and sequel plans. Exec John Pleasants has outed two.

DICE are working on Battlefield 3, which the COO "had the luxury" of gorping at, along with confirmation that Criterion's Burnout team is to give Need for Speed time in their garage.

Valve's Gabe Newell has affirmed they won't be ditching support of the original Left 4 Dead just because a sequel is on the way for this year.

Thanks to L4D's "insane popularity" the sequel should enjoy "super excited" customers who'd fight actual zombies to get it. A petition with over 20,000 fan doodlings suggests otherwise.

Dungeons & Dragons is free-to-play, but not for European users

Developer Turbine will be cranking out the free-to-play model for the Dungeons & Dragons MMO in the US, but publisher Codemasters says big 'no' for Europe.

At least "for the time being" we online Euro D&Ders will keep paying our monthly tributes, only the US is adopting the new model. It's a beta scheme that could roll out across the pond.

EVE Online developer CCP, those guys from that basement in Reykjavik, will be spilling the beans on their latest project this August during the GDC event.

Speculation says its either the 'Walking in Stations' expansion for EVE, or the new horror themed MMO 'World of Darkness' which is based off the White Wolf table-top game. Dun-dun-dun.

Rockstar Games' upcoming Max Payne 3 is set in Sao Palo, Brazil according to the July issue of Game Informer magazine. His pain pill popping is to affect gameplay.

The game is on par with Uncharted 2's fidelity, complete with "vibrant colors and fully destructible environments," owed to Rockstar's RAGE engine, and animation systems.

Peter Tamte of developer Atomic Games has said they're stilling holding on to the project, which he claims has "a lot of people" interested in it.

Konami was to publish the videogame set on the US-led operations in Fallujah but media controversy pulled their support. If it fails to sign then "very significant" studio changes await.

Ubisoft Producer Alexandre Parizeau has confirmed the latest Splinter Cell does have multiplayer supported, but they can't dish on it until "during the summer."

DLC is "always part of our strategies" and so fans can expect some things for Sam Fisher. Once the dev team are done they can "move on" to expanding the content. It's out this Fall.

Hobbit game "too ambitious" to tackle alongside film says del Toro

Director man Guillermo del Toro is working with Peter Jackson on The Hobbit, but this movie won't be accompanied by some videogame when it releases.

The team have "such tight release dates" that developing a game would stretch them too thin, though it certainly doesn't rule out something further down the line. Common sense prevails.
