Creatively Assembly have shipped Total War: Shogun 2 and now have the Aliens IP to work on, but that doesn't mean history gets a break from the UK studio.

Already they're digging into their next Total War chapter, which they were working on "whilst we were finishing Shogun 2", said studio director Tim Heaton.

What's coming from the Paradox Interactive house this year? Well the studio has issued an up-to-date release schedule, as of May 12th, for what fans can expect.

The closest release would be the King Arthur Collections due May 24th, with Pride of Nations following June 7th. Hearts of Iron III gets its expansion June 28th.

Even though there's still around four months left on the clock for Sword of the Stars II, it seems Kerberos already has a plan in their head for future expansions, and possibly even Sword of the Stars III.

Dark Digital Studios has released an alpha demo for Tech Ships: Waves of Victory, an upcoming RTS for the PC that's set in a near future where the world has collapsed after a third world war.

Hope isn't lost though, as the human race is starting to rebuild on land that is untouched by the destruction of the war, but factions are starting to form and the world is once again thrown into disarray.

Gas Powered Games boss Chris Taylor, creator of Total Annihilation, as spoke of his love for what Age of Empires Online accomplishes for the PC real-time strategy.

Taylor is "done with" slapping down $50 when you can get "hundreds of hours of free gameplay" instead. Free to play is "absolutely" the future for studios.

Remember the good old days when strategy games would offer a hotseat mode, like the Heroes of Might & Magic games. Each player would take a turn at the computer (hence the term).

According to a leaked internal memo from a Microsoft tech support employee, the next Xbox 360 system update will be issued on 19th May.

The update will be rolled out between six separate groups "to ensure a high quality deployment.", which should be completed by 30th May. Avatar Kinect won't be included in the update, but it will be released as a separate download on 27th May.

EA pulled the plug on Command & Conquer: Arena which was an MMORTS title in the works, however feature elements survived and made it into C&C 4.

This makes the 6th C&C to be cancelled that we have become aware off. Arena joins Tiberian Sun 2, Renegade 2, Continuum, Tiberian Incursion and Tiberium.

Tripwire has announced that Dwarfs!? has been release on Steam. This indie game by Power of Two is a strange Diggles meets Lemmings title in which you're the leader of a colony of dwarves who just can't stop digging. Invariably, their digging is going to get them killed, so the object of the game is to make sure they grab as much gold and treasure as they can before they self-terminate due to blind stupidity. According to the presser: "The same gold that might save your beard when someone, somewhere disturbs a Spider Queen."

RuneStorm announce "brutal, animated" chess with Rooks Keep

If you like your games of chess a little less static then Runes Keep might just do it for you. Developer RuneStorm take a "gothic, fantasy themed" spin on chess.

It's based off Epic's Unreal Development Kit, and it plays out in 3D arenas. RuneStorm are an indie studio of 3 guys out of South Africa. It's their first commercial title.

Microsoft open Age of Empires Online beta to masses, 48 hours

If you didn't get a beta key for Age of Empires Online then worry not because Microsoft Game Studios is giving away keys to anyone over the next 48 hours.

You can get "fast-tracked" before it shuts to the public from now until "9:01am on Saturday, 7 May." Sign in to Games for Windows Marketplace for the beta.

THQ has announced that they have extended their licensing agreement with Games Workshop to keep making games based on the tabletop miniatures RPG/wargame. THQ has produced such licensed games as Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, and will be releasing such games as the MMO Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium and shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.

Firaxis has announced the latest Civilization V civ and scenario pack, and lock up your women and children, it's Denmark and will feature those feared invaders: the Vikings. The Denmark civilization will feature powerful Berserkers and James Bond-ish Ski Infantry as the civ's specialty units. The Denmark ruler will be Harald Bluetooth (920 – 986 AD), who was King of Denmark for nearly 30 years. During his reign, he united the earls of Denmark and Norway and defended his people from invasion from Sweden and Germany. Today he is viewed as a just and wise king of Denmark.

Microsoft's updated the Xbox Live Status page with an alert that warns users of a potential phishing scam while playing Modern Warfare 2.

"Users may receive potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2." read a statement on the Status Page. "We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience"

FADE claims Total War: Shogun 2 was Steam's biggest Q1 seller

FADE (Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment) is reporting their estimates on Steam sales during the first quarter of 2011, and is stating that Steam made just under $200M USD in revenue, and Total War: Shogun 2 was the best-selling Steam game during that period.

1C Company's Men of War: Assault Squad now has its first multiplayer DLC available to purchase and download, as well as its second official patch out.

The patch adds new vehicles like the M4A4 Sherman and M4A4 Firefly, as well as gameplay balance tweaks. The DLC adds 5 new competitive online maps.
