It has been confirmed that Star Trek Online, the latest MMO from Champions Online developer Cryptic, will be going full warp speed into retail space in next year's first quarter.
Executive producer Craig Zinkievich has said the closed beta period is "right around the corner," though more details of its 2010 date remain quiet. Press release expected soon.

The closed beta period for Realtime's APB MMO has officially started with acceptance emails being sent out to a select few who registered. Applications are still open.
The actual time that testers will get are very limiting, in fact only three days out of the week are eligible with play windows of 7pm to 11pm. APB is due for full launch in March 2010.

The free-to-play relaunch of Dungeons and Dragons Online by developer Turbine in the US is proving quite the boon for the community. No sub fees have pushed subs up 40 percent.
There is a "very high percentage" of newcomers that use the in-game store, where the MMO now gets its revenue. A "good chunk" of users are spending more now than they did before.

Many MMOs face trouble during their development, but not many have had the streak of bad luck that developer Cheyenne Mountain and Stargate Worlds has had. Future still murky.

Tolkien MMO The Lord of the Rings Online gets its latest digital expansion soon. Siege of Mirkwood raises the level cap, adds a new zone and a whole new Skirmish system.
The standard edition comes with a speed-enhancing cloak if pre-ordered, but the special edition includes the Adventurer's Pack. That adds character slots, shared storage and gear.

The new and improved Battle.net is still under development at Blizzard, but they've now issued a deadline for North American and European users to merge accounts.
World of Warcraft subscribers must merge their accounts with a new Battle.net one, by November 11th in the US and the 12th in Europe. As a thanks, Blizz reward with WoW penguins.

Developer Funcom have enabled newcomers to the Age of Conan MMO to sample its wares completely free, albeit with "some restrictions" like no trading with others.
The trial accounts also can only use public chat channels, you can't post on the forums or send in-game mail either. Upgrading to a full account slays these pestering restrictions dead.

Director man Sam Raimi has revealed the 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'The Patriot' screenwriter, Robert Rodat, is going to be crafting "an original story" for Warcraft.
Raimi says they'll be "really faithful" to the game lore, he wants it "accurate and true" to Azeroth's inhabitants. So gold farmers confirmed? It will feel like a "'World of WarCraft' adventure."

Sony Online Entertainment boss John Smedley has named the MMO PlanetSide sequel as 'PlanetSide Next' in his new LiveJournal entry, it's "an amazing game" he loved to bits.

Developer Mythic is ditching the separate starter zones for new players in Warhammer Online, with the idea being to shore up populations and keep the flow "more intuitive".
Basically the old way stretched questing and the like 'too thin', and so they've decide to concentrate on one super area for all new players. They also introduce apprenticeships.

Curt Schilling, a former Red Sox pitcher, owns the Massachusetts-based developer 38 Studios. They're busying working on their Project Copernicus MMO for the PC.

Lance Stites, executive producer of NCsoft West, has written an open letter to the Aion community, commenting on the extensive queue times and server over-population.
Stites did not mention the waivering subscription fees however, which many feel should be paid back to players who haven't been able to get into the game due to the servers problems.

The developer behind Warcraft 3's popular Defense of the Ancients: Allstars mod has announced that it's now leading a team at Half-Life developer Valve, and hinted that there will be "great news for DotA fans."

It was revealed yesterday that Funcom would be cutting 20 per cent of its workforce, which resulted in a delay for its upcoming MMO The Secret World, leaving us with a thought about what it would mean for Age of Conan.
For those of you worried, don't be. A Funcom spokesperson told us that it will have little effect on Age of Conan and its expansion: "What I can tell you is that this will have little to no effect on Conan and the expansion. The Secret World will be delayed with a few months."
