At an event taking place in the UK today, Cryptic's Design Director and Executive Producer, Bill Roper, informed Strategy Informer that Champions Online would be released in the US and Europe on 14th July 2009.

Expect more details on Champions Online from this event soon.

Guild Wars dev "humbled" as sales pass 6 million, MMO 4 years old

The subscription-free MMO Guild Wars has reached its fourth birthday, and now ArenaNet is even more happy to reveal its sold over 6 million copies.

Shifting that many copies has proven the free-to-play model is "a big hit with gamers," says studio boss Mike O'Brien. Let good times be free.

Lionhead readying a game for E3, "new franchise will be revealed"

According to a Swansea Metropolitan University student, Lionhead's animation director Andrew Lindsay popped into to class with a new game.

While showcasing some "incredible facial animation", Lindsay said "a new game" from a new IP will be announced at E3. Previous hints from the studio suggest this is likely the case.

Release Date for Red Faction: Guerrilla moved forward, now releasing on 5th June

THQ has informed Strategy Informer that the release date for Red Faction: Guerrilla has been moved forward a week, giving it a new date of Friday 5th June, 2009.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a 3rd person, open-world action shooter set on Mars, 50 years after the events of the original Red Faction. Players will take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force.

Confirmed: Stalin vs Martians releases on April 29th

Paradox Interactive confirmed today that Stalin vs Martians will be released on April 29th exclusively for the PC.

Stalin vs. Martians, as the name suggests, is a game both masterfully trashy and absolutely over-the-top. Fun and accessible, it takes a simple arcade-like approach to the genre of real-time strategy.

The differences between the FFXIII demo and it's full retail counterpart are going to be big, the net has been scoured and an evolutionary list compiled.

Among things like you'd expect, like frame rate tweaks, there are some pleasant surprises too. Victory poses are "under consideration," better targeting, subtitles, Summons, and more...

Game revenue up 16% for Microsoft, last quarter flogged 1.7m 360s

The corporate giant has enjoyed 16 percent higher revenues this last quarter, selling 1.7m console units compared to last year's same period of 1.3m.

While the company has had a positive flood regarding Xbox 360 and PC gaming, overall Microsoft's revenue has fallen 6 percent from 2008 - though $13.65 billion is nothing to scoff at.

User-content "trend" isn't new, contributors should be rewarded

American McGee says user-made stuff was around "back in the Doom days," all that's changed are publishers/developers "trying to monetize it."

The veteran designer believes studios that rely on user-content to drive their games "should find ways" to reward its contributing fans, for their time and effort "developing added value."

New Transformers and Spiderman games coming, no Hollywood ties

Activision is looking to invest big in the Transformers franchise, and so boot-strapped developer High Moon to get cracking on a new game.

As for Spiderman, reports suggest that the project went to Prototype's Radical team. Both new games are said to be unrelated to any films, so we could have something good maybe?

Star Trek: D-A-C is officially official, hopes to tap "ignited interest"

In what now comes as no shock to anyone, a Star Trek: D-A-C game for XBLA, PSN and even PC has been made official by Paramount and friends.

The arcade title allows players to "directly control a variety of ships" as Starfleet and the Romulan's battle it out. It has a singleplayer, online multiplayer and co-op mode for Trekkies.

Sony: Uncharted 2 online and co-op is just "rumour or speculation"

Leaks from a Sony show in the US apparently reveal that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will have both multiplayer and a co-op mode.

Also the co-op mode won't follow the main storyline, meaning two-player adventuring will split from the core campaign it seems. For now Sony has an embargo in place, and offers no comment.

Zombie Wranglers finally shuffles toward release, arrives May 6th

Having been slated for a fall window, the whole Acti-Blizz marriage threw a spanner in the works for developer Frozen Codebase.

Now Zombie Wranglers will be busting out on XBLA early next month, players will control a "quirky suburban" tween on a cell-shaded warpath with the undead. No price tag yet.

The F1 racing game will only be fuelling up and changing tyres on Nintendo Wii and Sony PSP this year, next-gen gamers will have to wait till 2010.

So far the Formula 1 people are "very impressed" with what Codemasters are doing, and they're working "closely together". F1 2009 is expected this autumn, featuring champ Lewis Hamilton.

The Japanese developer has revealed the lifetime sales numbers for three of their biggest names: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts.

It should come as little surprise that Final Fantasy leads the pack, with over 85m copies sold around the world. Second place goes to Dragon Quest with 47m, while the new kid on the block...

The singleplayer demo will include a complete mission from the US campaign and two multiplayer modes in skirmish when it arrives.

Eidos and Warner Bros' Battlestations: Pacific combines both sea and air combat, through intense action and strategy. You'll defend against kamikaze attacks, and launch aerial assaults.

Lode Runner has come to XBLA, it's a remake of the retro arcade classic, and was initially priced at 800 MS Points - but that was very wrong.

The price has since been hiked to what it should have been, a full blown 1200 MS Points. Naturally such a sensitive issue, wallet gouging, is a always a flaming hot topic among gamers.

EA Sports has enjoyed their "500 millionth" online game this week

Peter Moore, head coach over at EA Sports, is naturally delighted that there is now on average about 2.2 million online sessions played daily.

Avid EA Sports gamers have amassed over 4 billion minutes of multiplayer action since the summer of '08. This huge online trend has "transformed the videogame landscape" notes Moore.

Jason Kingsley of Rebellion has said hardware limits had previously curtailed ambitions in earlier Alien Versus Predator games.

He reveals the new game is set "about 30 years" after the Aliens film, where a colonised planet stumbles upon ancient ruins. It'll "dovetail directly" into the 20th Century Fox flicks too.

THQ today announced that the single-player demo for Red Faction: Guerrilla is now available to download from the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a 3rd person, open-world shooter featuring real physics-based destruction, a story-driven single-player campaign and robust multiplayer options.
