Review Advanced Tactics: World War II, review by Rohag

Advanced Tactics: World War Two is a superb turn-based, operational level wargame in the spirit of the Avalon Hill and SPI board wargames of the 1960s-70s. It is perhaps unique in its treatment of units as “containers” to be filled with sub-formations of infantry, armor, transport, support elements, etc. as desired by the player – subject to what he or she has produced. You create your own chains of command up to four layers deep through which supplies, reinforcements, and replacements flow. The editor is exceptionally powerful, even allowing one to tweak the behavior of the AI. Veteran computer wargamers compare Advanced Tactics to The Operational Art of War, the latter being a bit more historically oriented while Advanced Tactics is more versatile. A random scenario generator greatly enhances replay value.
