Funcom closes Beijing office, MMO live teams moved to North Carolina

Funcom's restructuring has started to come into effect as Funcom Beijing is to be closed down. The Chinese-based studio team did a lot of art and animation work for The Secret World.

Meanwhile the live teams for Funcom MMOs are being rehomed at Raleigh, North Carolina. This moves most live devs from Montreal, which will focus more on unannounced mobile projects.

Funcom has announced a new expansion for their free-to-play MMO Age of Conan, called Secrets of Dragon's Spine. The expansion is unique in that rather than have one large release, there will be multiple updates over time starting in a few months.

The Sercet World beta attracts one million

There are one million registered users for the beta of The Secret World, reveals Funcom. They say this is proof it's shaping up to be "one of the most highly anticipated" MMOs.

Its figures are "significantly higher" than Age of Conan, Funcom's previous MMO. They're "very optimistic" for The Secret World thanks to these figures and the "excellent feedback".

Funcom has announced in its developer update that the crafting system of free-to-play MMO Age of Conan has been completely revamped.

According to the developer, “This is a totally new system. When we sat down and looked at the system and how we could add depth and improve engagement, it became clear that it was better to start over. So rather than try and shoe-horn what we had into something a little more useable, we decided to bite the proverbial bullet and start over.”
