I have a copy of the original but, unfortunately, it arrived on my desk at a time when I had other games that I was busy flogging like the proverbial 'rented mule'... so Anno ended up only being installed long enough to take a brief look at before being shoved on the shelve to collect dust.
At some point this winter I will probably find time to re-install and give it a go.

Is this game strategy game type or fantastic game type or allof them ?(Graphics are brilliant)
By Kres (SI Elite) on Oct 28, 2008

It's a realistic historic strategy game of economic scope, with military. A great previous games in its series, played em and loved em. They've improved graphics a lot in this one.

This must be DirectX 10: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/anno1404/screenshot-viewer.html?id=208952 ? Looks really clear a sharp, and splendid at the same time.

Thoroughly enjoyed the previous title, and this looks like its' going to improve not just on looks. Trouble is, "Empire: Total War" is going to draw me in and not let me go for at least 6 months...or until the likely expansion. That and "RA3" will keep me busy on the strategy front (not forgetting SCII, natch).

I'm a newbie on ANNO games. What's ANNO stands for? Can we compare this game with Civilization?
By Orv (SI Core) on Dec 08, 2008
Orv
Anno Domini (Medieval Latin: In the year of (the/Our) Lord), abbreviated as AD or A.D., is a designation used to number years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. More fully, years may be also specified as Anno Domini Nostri Iesu (Jesu) Christi ("In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ").

Thanks a lot, Orv! I bet not all ANNO gamers even know what it's title stands for!

The standard English translation would probably be, simply... 1404 A.D.

You are most welcome.

By the standard Portuguese language, this reads as Year 1404, rather than 1404 A.D.
Which is sort of the same in a twisted way.

Can we compare this game with Vae Victis? i see that they focus on civilize your nation...
By devel (SI Elite) on Dec 09, 2008
devel
In a way you can, because it focuses in the development of an early civilization instead of a pre-modern one. I guess if you put it simple one just takes on the XIX Century while the other focuses on the XV Century.
