v1.09 – November 10, 2012

Actually fixed “The False Chroniclers III” (GUID 8450104) to be a find Spy wanted person quest instead of a damaged ship quest. Prior versions allowed quest progression but was mismatched.
Actually fixed “The False Chroniclers VI” (GUID 8450113) to ask you to deliver the chroniclers to Northburgh’s warehouse, not Al Zahir’s warehouse!
Hildegard’s achievement text for completing her major quest (GUID 122844) updated to no longer say “Build a Metropolis” but “Settle Noblemen” since version 1.08 of my patch changed this requirement.
Capitalized “Damage” and “Reload Time” when used in their proper gameplay sense.
Added fun achievement one-liners to the save and load achievements.
Random Inhabitant quest “High Stakes” (GUID 6603412) quest-giver changed to “An Anxious Inhabitant” from “A Fearful Noblemen” since this is a Citizen giving the quest.
Leif’s quest “Creative Solitude” (GUID 5850105) gave the player a Small Shipyard Construction Plan item upon accepting the quest. This has been removed since there’s no reason for it.
Leif’s extensive quest “Leif’s Sister I” (GUID 5850052) is now able to be declined.
The Emperor’s quest “The Feast” renamed to “The Obligatory Feast” to distinguish it from other quests.
The Sultan’s extensive quest “Influenza with Consequences V” (GUID 845012cool had the wrong quest objective text and now correctly states the “Escort a Ship out of this region…” instead of the wrong “Sail a Ship to…”.
Hassan’s quest “Victory condition: destroy Player” (GUID 8250609) renamed to “Wipe 'em Off the Map” and actual quest story text as added instead of also saying “Victory condition: destroy Player”. Note that the German version also uses this incorrect text instead of suitable story text and quest title.
Lucius’ extensive quest chain “The Devil’s Work” text had duplicate part III’s but now properly goes from I-VII.
Garibaldi’s quest “Friend and Foe” renamed to “Foe and Friend?” to better match text.
Leif’s extensive quest “Leif’s Sister” changed behind the scenes in order to ensure the quest name displays properly (replaced QUEST_SENDER with “Leif”).
The Emperor’s extensive quest “Thirst for Knowledge III” item for successful mapping has been changed from “Notice” to “Report” since the original item is specific to a chess game quest.
The Sultan’s Venice extensive quest “Thirst for Knowledge” has been renamed to “The Sultan's New Glass” because there was already an extensive quest for the Emperor with the same name. Plus the name wasn’t really accurate since this quest is about making special Glass, not thirsting for knowledge.
Quest objective “Attain the following Achievement” changed to “Acquire the following Attainment” since it is actually an Attainment, not Achievement.
Number of Market Carts sent out tooltip changed to numeral instead of alphabet.
Added “Founds a Settlement” to the building Tooltips for Warehouses.
Reverted my name change of “Rusted Coffin Ship” to “Coffin Ship” since the game actually only uses this ship for all Coffin Ships, hence “Rusted” is not always applicable.
Grammar fix for achievement name “The Left and Right Wooden Legs of the Devil” instead of original “Wooden Leg” (GUID 122925).
Standardized some Attainment descriptions and added bullet points for readability.
Renamed the helper quest “Needs in a Metropolis” to “Needs in a Refined City” since this quest triggers upon the first Noblemen or Envoys moving in, not upon reaching a Metropolis (GUID 8151189).
The “Demand Tribute” text has been changed to “Demands a sum of Coin be paid to you” from the strange “Offers a chance for additional Income”.
Diplomatic action text has been changed from saying “X is being” to “X will be” since the message still must be confirmed by you.
Diplomatic action text for tributes changed to say “exchange Gold Coins for Reputation” instead of just saying “pay Gold Coins”.
Updated the building tooltips for the Small, Large, and Oriental Shipyards and the Historic Warehouses to say “Must be built in a Harbor Area” instead of incorrectly saying “Must be built on the Coast”.
The item text “…properties of a Ship are enhanced by having these X on board” changed to “…properties of a Ship are enhanced by having this X on board” since every item is singular.
Renamed “The Accursed Knife-Wielder” item to “Blackbeard the Accursed” since this item is linked with the “Redbeard” item and the achievement to recruit “the devil’s duo”. Now these two people have proper names, just like the other four Tier 10 achievement-linked Items. The text for this item also said “his name is only whispered” indicating he should have a name. I also gave him an edited icon to give him a black beard and purple-ish hat with gold trim to show his importance.
Renamed “Snarling Corsair” to “Knife-Wielding Corsair” since “Knife-Wielder” was removed from the renamed Blackbeard item and I wanted to keep it since it is great. Plus there was already a “Scowling” item and “Snarling” was too similar to it. I also changed his item text from “Who can stop him?” to “He’s a real cut-up…” since it is more fun.
Renamed “Crazy Ship’s Cook” to “Crazed Ship’s Cook” since it is more fitting.
Renamed “Refined Customs Officer” to “Well-Dressed Customs Officer” to indicate he levies duties for all clothing items.
Renamed “Cheerful Customs Officer” to “Spirited Customs Officer” since there already was a “Cheery” officer. Plus this indicates in a funny way that he levies duties for alcohol.
Renamed “Assiduous Oriental Customs Officer” to “Refined Oriental Customs Officer” and renamed “Zealous Customs Officer” to “Assiduous Customs Officer”. This was done since the Oriental officer deals with luxury goods and the Occidental officer deals with basic building materials, which lends itself much more toward the boring definition of “assiduous”.
Changed item text for “Deaf Cannoneer” (GUID 10008469) from boring “Huh?!?!” to “Silently reloading…”.
Changed Redbeard’s item description (GUID 10008517) to remove the strange nearly black and unreadable text that said “Having a Corsair veteran on board improves various Ship features.” First, this note is obvious since the item itself lists its benefits. Second, there are countless items that improve various Ship features but don’t have this note. Hence, I think the developers didn’t mean for this to be there.
Changed item text for “Lord Ludwig the Crazed” (GUID 10008269) from “Solid as a rock!” to “His madness is his greatest weapon!” since the first description wasn’t fitting plus it overlapped with the extensive quest of the same name.
Changed item text for “Captain Claude Homebird” (GUID 10008136) from “Sailed to the edge of the world and beyond…” to “Has sailed to the edge of the world and beyond!”.
Changed item text for “Small Powder Keg” (GUID 10008042) from “Small but nasty!” to “Small but deadly!”.
Changed item text for “Plugged Powder Keg” (GUID 10008326) from “Hands off!” to “Keep hands at a safe distance!”.
Changed item text for “High-Explosive Powder Keg” (GUID 10008125) from “Boooom!” to “A barrel brimming with boom!”.
Changed item text for “Insane Powder Keg” (GUID 10008126) from “Small radius, huge impact!” to “A keg of mass destruction!”.
Changed item text for “Portly Oriental Customs Officer” (GUID 10008353) from “He really liked delicacies” to “He really likes dainty delicacies”.
Changed item text for “Well-Dressed Customs Officer” (GUID 10008356) from “Knows all about fine Cloth” to “Knows all about the finest fabrics”.
Changed item text for “Dapper Customs Officer” (GUID 10008357) from “Everything in order here” to “He keeps everything in perfect order”.
Changed item text for “Zealous (originally Assiduous) Oriental Customs Officer” (GUID 1000835cool from “Familiar with the precious items from the Occident” to “Quite fond of posh styles” since he deals with luxury Oriental items.
Changed item text for “Spirited (originally Cheerful) Customs Officer” (GUID 10008559) from “Loves a chin-wag” to “Loves people, drink, and life in general!”
Reworded the achievement text for the Blackbeard/Redbeard achievement (GUID 122925) to say “recruit both legendary Corsair Captains” instead of “recruit these Corsair Captains”.
Reworded the achievement text for the two Imperial Captains achievement (GUID 122867) to say “recruit both Imperial Naval Captains” instead of “recruit these Imperial Captains”.
Reworded the achievement text for the two Imperial Generals achievement (GUID 12286cool to say “recruit both Imperial Generals” instead of “recruit these Imperial Generals”.
Changed item description for “Scar-Faced Captain” from the generic “The Ship has to be able to take this!” to “His twisted exterior hides a sincere heart.” sensitive cultured
Changed item description for “One-Armed Captain” from “Has the Ship firmly under control!” to “Runs a tight Ship, single-handedly.” because I just couldn’t resist.
Changed item descriptions for almost all Customs Duty items because most of them incorrectly described the Good itself rather than the fact that you are imposing a fee on merchants requiring them to give you free Goods. A few were changed to be more clever or fun.
Renamed item description for Envoy Licenses item from “Knowledge is Power” to “Lords of the Sand” to distinguish it from the quest name and achievement both called “Knowledge is Power”.
Renamed “Notice” item (GUID 8562) to “Strategic Advice” since it is more fitting.
Renamed “Closely Written Balance Sheet Book” item (GUID 8643) to “Carefully Written Balance Sheet Book”.
The gameplay term “Speed” has been capitalized everywhere.
Edited the text notification about a Spy trying to incite revolt (GUID 40725007) to say the spy is “attempting to incite” instead of incorrectly stating the Spy was inciting revolt since success was still uncertain.
Standardized the term “Incite Revolt” instead of the rarely used “Foment Revolt”.
Standardized the term “Spy” instead of using “Henchman” since the game used both but Spy is more accurate.
Changed gameplay term to “Smoke out Enemy Spy” instead of “Smoke out Enemy Safe House”. This was done because the goal is to smoke out the Spy.
Changed gameplay term to “Infiltrate House” instead of the occasionally used “Infiltrate Building” since this new term is more accurate and less confusing.
Changed infiltration not possible tooltip (GUID 60121074) to clarify “Citizens or above” must live there, not just “Citizens”.
Standardized “X not Possible” instead of the few places that said “X Impossible”.
Changed wording for uncovering Safe Houses achievement (GUID 40100509 ) to say “uncover X enemy Safe Houses” instead of awkward “enemy-infiltrated Houses”.
Changed “send out a Watchman” to “send out Watchmen” since you actually send out a group of them.
Renamed “Reliable Spy” (GUID 41400007) to “Master Spy” since this character needs a more powerful name since he’s the chief Spy who tells you things.
Edited the loading screen tip that referred to “Adjust Camouflage Pattern” for Bases of Operations (GUID 40103505) since this function does not exist.
Edited the loading screen tip for speeding up the game to also now tell the player they can slow down the game by pressing “X” key.
Edited the loading screen tip for Multiplayer informing the player they can’t speed up or slow down the game (GUID 40103761). Now the tip lists the keys bound to these functions and informs the player they won’t work. This fixes the issue of the original loading tip display game binding data incorrectly.
Attainments helper quest (GUID 8051325) changed to include Venetian attainments in the list of possible attainments. Nice find me!
The word “Blueprint” has been changed to “Sketches” in all places since blueprint wasn’t used until the late 1800s. Accurate history, ho!
Hassan’s fraternization quest “The Feast” renamed to “The Abiding Feast” to spice it up a bit.
Made the words “crew” and “sailor” lowercase instead of capitalized since these are not proper gameplay terms.
Anno Venice includes extensive quests for Garibaldi, the Emperor, and the Sultan, but none of the announcement (start) or completion texts refer to these quests as extensive quests but rather label them as regular quests. This is because the developers didn’t include any of the necessary “aiprofiles” XML tags for each quest. I’ve added tags under QUEST_STARTED and QUEST_FINISHED for every Venice extensive quest. This includes all 23 extensive quest parts for Garibaldi added to the addon_01_aiprofiles.xml file. This also includes 18 Emperor and 18 Sultan extensive quest parts added to the original aiprofiles.xml file.
Several extensive quests didn’t have the correct extensive quest final part completion text (GUID 5400123) but rather used non-extensive quest text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML file. Quests fixed: Key to Peace II (GUID 8051274), Chess Game II (GUID 8051283), Gift II (GUID 8051284), Stolen Writings II (GUID 8051287), War Looms II (GUID 8151195), Secret Message II (GUID 8151196), Documentation II (GUID 8151197), Prohibited Zone II (GUID 8151204).
The Sultan’s extensive quest “Influenza with Consequences V” (GUID 845012cool didn’t have the correct extensive quest final part completion text (GUID 8325010) but rather used non-extensive quest text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML file.
The Sultan’s extensive quest “Extradition II” (GUID 845018cool didn’t have the correct extensive quest final part completion text (GUID 8325010) but rather used non-extensive quest text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML file.
Several Emperor and Sultan extensive quests didn’t have the correct extensive quest partial completion text (GUID 8325009) but rather used incorrect non-extensive quest completion text (GUID 5400164). This has been corrected by editing the “aiprofiles” XML files. Quests fixed: Extradition I (GUID 8350202), Confidant I (GUID 8350203), Dress Alliance I (GUID 8350206), Recovery I (GUID 8450186), Confession I (GUID 8450191), Manhunt I (GUID 8450194).
Added extensive quest part I start text for “Fitting Thanks I” (GUID 815119cool and final part text for “Fitting Thanks II” (GUID 8051282) to aiprofiles.xml. Part II was fixed by replacing a start text for an unused quest (GUID 805128cool . Also added extensive quest partial completion text (GUID 5400130) for “Fitting Thanks I”.
Added proper extensive quest final part completion text for GUIDs 8051282, 8350201, 8350205, 8350208, 8450190, 8450193 by creating a new X entries in aiprofiles.xml.

The extensive quest start text for all the final parts of the joint quests has been reword to now say “X awaits your arrival for the final part of the Extensive Quest: QUEST NAME” instead of just saying “X awaits your arrival”.
Added a new text line (GUID 8325010) for completing the final part of royal extensive quests (Emperor and Sultan). Instead of just saying “X kindly thanks you” (GUID 8325004) it now says “X deeply thanks you for completing the Extensive Quest and gives you a royal reward”. Now the original line is only used for royal non-extensive quests. This required changing QUEST_FINISHED tags for all 22 royal extensive quests from the base game.
Fixed extensive quest start text for “United Forces IV” (GUID 8350183) by deleting the extra aiprofiles.xml record and fixing the other to use the right audio pool (NI_QuestStarted).

Fixed extensive quest completion text for “The False Coat of Arms IV” (GUID 8450157) by changing the text line from 8325004 to 8325009. This fixes the issue where the Sultan told you the extensive quest was completed even though part V was remaining. Also fixed the extensive quest start text so it also doesn’t incorrectly say this is the final part of the extensive quest (GUID changed from 8325008 to 8325007).
Fixed extensive quest completion and start text for “The False Coat of Arms V” (GUID 8450197) by adding text tags to aiprofiles.xml in the right places.
