Ubisoft's Uplay blasted as 'rootkit', installs 'unsecure' browser plug-in [UPDATE]
Some coding enthusiasts have discovered a little something in Ubisoft's Uplay platform for PC leading others to blast it as a 'rootkit'. It stealthly installs a browser plug-in which isn't secure.
The plugin granted its discoverer "unexpectedly (at least to me) wide access" to websites. It's a rather embarrassing hiccup if true.
UPDATE: Trend Micro's Rik Ferguson, director of the security research firm, has said it's "not a malicious root, just really bad code." It's "a huge risk" .

American author John Beiswenger wrote a novel called Link which published in 2002, in which a person in a lab experiences memories through the eyes of his ancestors.
That sounds somewhat familiar doesn't it? That's the problem asserts Beiswenger, because Ubisoft has pinched a piece of his own storyline for the Animus in Assassin's Creed.

A snapshot of a survey from Ubisoft shows the studio has been asking where people would most like a future Assassin's Creed to be set, like Victorian England or Ancient Egypt.
Maybe some Medieval China appeals to you more? The Russian Revolution with the rise of the Communists? Throwing off British rule in The American Revolution?

Ubisoft has been dangling the Assassin's Creed film rights in front of various movie studios, causing a bidding war between the major houses like Universal.
However it seems Sony Pictures is the frontrunner and is 'close' to nailing an agreement. Ubisoft Motion Pictures is handling the negotiations for the IP.

Ubisoft's Jade Raymond, who's worked intimately on the original Assassin's Creed, has said sequels for existing IP are "great" for testing 'innovative ideas'.
The reason is because if a new idea or new tech "doesn't work" then there's still "tons of the other stuff" that fans will enjoy, and help the game recover.
