"Standoff"
Battlefield 1942 Map by TE5LA
-------------------------------------------------
Standoff is a remodeling of my first Battlefield 1942 map "The Stand". In this revamped version,
I have added custom terrain textures, changed the skymap, adjusted some of the game variables,
and fixed a few object problems.

CONCEPT:
--------
My hope in designing "Standoff" was to create a map that would
bring some elements back to the game that I felt had begun to decline.
One was the use of more land and infantry units, especially the Scout
and artillery. To help encourage this, the home bases do not contain
aircraft. There are no heavy bombers present in the map; It would be
difficult to take off and navigate bombers on a map this small with the
restricted land mass. Although this is a "small" map, it contains five
bases and many Defense Guns, which can play an important role in the map,
so it will be imperative to take out the DefGuns (or guard your own).
And unlike the typical map that allows units to repawn after about
10 seconds, the DefGuns will remain destroyed for between 3 and 5 minutes.
In fact, all units will take considerably longer to respawn than what
you may be accustomed to. I felt that this was no only more realistic
(it would have taken some time to repair or rebuild units) but it also
encourages players to utilize their infantry abilities more fully.
There is a reason a Scout carries a sniper rifle and binoculars. For
the new players who may not know, the binoculars are used by the Scouts
to "scout" targets for their artillery units. Engineers have explosive
charges that are useful in blowing tanks, DefGuns, etc. The more players
who in this map should increase the need for team work because the units
are fairly few and far between. On the flip side, they also won't explode
30 seconds after getting out of them. This is useful when you want to plant
some charges, lay some land mines, take shots at planes from the flak guns,
or just abandon a vehicle as an obstruction to slow the enemy or set a trap.
SUMMARY:
--------
I hope you enjoy this map.
