This is my fourth map for Battlefield Vietnam, the 21st map I've made for the Battlefield series, and the first BfV map I'm game to release. The map is set in a fictional Vietnamese city. The US Marines and the NVA are both rushing to take over a palace in the city center. If either manages to capture the palace they will have a well-defended position to operate from.
This is a King Of The Hill map. Whoever holds two control points will trigger the ticket bleed. You cannot spawn at the palace, however there is tons of health and ammo there so as long as you're careful holding the palace shouldn't be a problem.
Sorry, but there's no Singleplayer support. I play Singleplayer myself, having dialup, but until I get the bots working just fine there won't be any SP support. However, you will find the SP files in the map folder, they have just had "(Not Recommended)" added to the filename so the game doesn't use them. I left the files there because maybe someone will want to use the work I've done so far and fix up the SP. If you do, please email the files to me so I can release a patch with any exploit fixes, bug fixes, etc. You'll get full credit, of course. :) I may also open up areas that you could see but not go previously. Depends how much spare time I have.
This map has only one mobile vehicle in it - a T-72 that spawns halfway between the main bases. It is not affected by who owns what control point - a T-72 will always spawn there no matter what. The only other vehicles in this map are stationary M60 machine guns and a M46 artillery cannon at each main base. The map was so small and based on infantry fighting I felt it was no use adding half a ton of tanks, helicopters, cars etc. The T-72 is only of limited use - mainly spawn camping or aiding artillery in bombarding the palace.
The ingame map is a bit dodgy, but I'm not too good with Photoshop so you'll just have to put up with it. It's fairly useless anyway because the map is kinda small. Just turn on the 3d map (default 'Q' key) and you'll be right.
You'll need patch 1.2 for Battlefield Vietnam for this map to work properly, because I used some buildings, trees, and the M60 and T-72 which only feature in 1.2.
Oh yeah, and you shouldn't have a problem with FPS. I set all my detail to high and I got 80fps most of the time, once it even went up to 300 but I don't know what happened there. Meh. Maybe because my computer's good.
HINTS & TIPS
After a fair bit of testing, my friends and I determined that these were the top 3 weapons for each side:
#1 - AK-47
#2 - RPD
#3 - MAT-49
#1 - Mossberg 500
#2 - M60
#3 - M16
All of them are handy in some way or another, but by far the favourite was the AK-47. In this kind of environment it owns everything else. The Mossberg 500 is excellent around the palace because you can pretty much blast everyone away as soon as they get close. The RPD and M60 are great for supporting fire or for backing up the static M60s on the palace wall. The MAT-49 is great at point-blank range, and the M16 proved invaluable in picking off M60 gunners on the palace wall.
In the 'Kits' section, for the NVA Heavy Assault class you can't get the SA-7 in this map, since it's practically useless in infantry battles. Rather, you get to choose between the RPG-2 or the RPG-7V.
And one last thing - if you fall in the moat around the palace, you ain't getting out. So don't fall in.

If I have enough time over the next couple of weeks I will probably release a patch with a few more things I have started work on at the time of writing.
- More areas opened out so the map is larger, and more vehicles (maybe even a Huey or two)
- Destroyable fuel barrels much in the fashion of BF2. Should spice close-quarters fighting up.
- SP support with good (and I mean really good) AI.
Move 'Park.rfa' to your levels directory, in my case:
C: -> Program Files -> EA Games -> Battlefield Vietnam -> Mods -> BfVietnam -> Archives -> bfvietnam -> levels
If there's already a file of the same name, you will need to remove it.
You can give it out to your friends, edit it, or make new maps based on it but just don't take credit for stuff you didn't do. I wouldn't appreciate that.
