EA general manager Ben Cousins reveals their Battlefield Play4Free game cost them "just over" 5 percent of Battlefield 3's budget - production and marketing.
Costs were kept low by using Bad Company 2 weapons and Battlefield 2 maps, which was decided to give people "familiarity", and it's out of 'paranoia' too.

Organisers for the GDC next year have confirmed Swedish studio DICE will be holding a session for Battlefield 3 and it's "technical implementation" of art.
That means fancy engineering talk and pictures of "deferred rendering, HDR" and other stuff. Also on the books is Gears of War 3 and Final Fantasy.

EA has announced Battlefield Play4Free today, a brand new PC game in the series that's completely free but supported by optional microtransactions.
It's a "deep PC shooter" says EA that's got Battlefield's "signature" vehicle warfare and sandbox gameplay; it supports 32-players. Beta sign-ups live.

EA is giving developer DICE "as much time and privacy" the studio needs to make Battlefield 3, so there's no marketing anytime soon.
In fact the publisher doesn't even want the press bothering them. A beta for Battlefield 3 is included in Medal of Honor Limited Edition copies.
