Game Description
Shiloh differs most dramatically from the other Battleground titles in the nature of the terrain. The blanket of forests across western Tennessee is broken up by small fields, like islands in a sea of trees. Within the forests, visibility is limited, rendering artillery useless and coordinated maneuvering almost impossible. The fields are ideal for defensive positions because they offer visibility and room for artillery to set up killing zones. As the Rebels drive through the forest, pushing the Yankees before them, Shiloh breaks up into a series of battles for each field. Most Civil War battles were engagements fought in the open, characteristic of 19th-century warfare. Shiloh makes for an interesting exception.
