Ancel: Beyond Good & Evil project "always have in mind"

Michel Ancel, creator of Beyond Good & Evil, has said now that the new consoles are "around the corner we're working on them," with Ubisoft figuring out how to squeeze them for all they're worth.

They are "still things we need to understand" on them, and admits he has Beyond Good & Evil 'always in mind'. He adds "it'd be painful" to bring out a new game on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has had a troubled development cycle, having an intriguing E3 2009 teaser, but almost no other information save conflicting reports that the game was either cancelled or that the game was still being worked on.

However, at an invite-only event in Montpelier, VT event, series creator Michel Ancel stunned attendees by showing off actual footage from the game.

Ubisoft senior VP of sales and marketing, Tony Key, says Michel Ancel's new Rayman: Origins performing well will give him "more leeway for other opportunities" like Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Ancel "has to build up his studio," said Key. Beyond Good & Evil's "whimsical style" at the heart of Rayman: Origins and it'll "appeal to more than just younger gamers." BG&E HD doing very well.

Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 can't be what they 'imagined it to be' if it releases for this generation of hardware, reveals Michel Ancel. Twiddle those thumbs.

They had big ambitions for the original PS2 game but it was "far less than what we wanted" in the end, because of limitations. Ancel and co. wants planetary travel.

Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot assures us from gamescom that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still getting worked over, and they aim for it to be "perfect".

The original was "very well appreciated" by those who played it but sales were a disappointment. After a while it was "very recognized".
