Firaxis "not specifically looking" at next-gen hardware 'on Civ side at least'

All this new-fangled hardware for the next generation consoles wouldn't typically be something a PC centric developer like Firaxis would care much for, but producer Dennis Shirk says they're paying attention.

It's what Microsoft and Sony are coming up with that goes into the machines, like Kinect and PS4's new controllers with 'Move built in'. They're becoming "much more attractive" to PC studios.

Firaxis has learnt quite a few things from their initial post launch days with Civilization V, says senior producer Dennis Shirk. Chief among those lessons were that fans craved more than 'just more Civs'.

While 'neat' you could play as another civilization, you were still "playing the same game," which is why Firaxis targeted "bigger gameplay systems" with expansions.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has grappled gunned its way to the top of the UK all format chart, as FIFA 12 is outperformed by the plastic brick metropolis of Gotham.

Civilization V: Gods & Kings for PC entered 16th. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Max Payne 3 each lost a spot at 3rd and 4th respectively. Blizzard's Diablo III slips down 13th.

2K Games has just put out a new trailer entitled 'Cultivate and Expand' for Civilization V, which is the second behind-the-scenes look at the new expansion pack, which releases tomorrow.

Producer Dennis Shirk and Lead Designer Ed Beach give a guided tour to some of the rebuilt game systems in Gods & Kings, like new religion, espionage, combat, and naval mechanics.
