Command & Conquer with more 'ethnically diverse' Generals after "bad reaction"

Victory Games' upcoming Command & Conquer is a bit less Middle-Eastern with its militant forces after the studio received a "bad reaction from people" citing it as "pretty offensive" - Global Liberation Army now more inclusive.

The face of the GLA will "probably just offend everybody," joked Victory's Tim Morten. The game's lore had the GLA rooted in Middle-Eastern culture and support - but now it's actually global, I guess.

Command & Conquer closed beta starts this summer, applications available

EA's new Command & Conquer, powered by DICE's Frostbite engine, will be going through closed beta this summer and Victory Games want fans to sign up. As it's free-to-play the studio can be 'more responsive'.

This new C&C is based off the Generals series, which pits three factions against one another. Much like the original we choose between multiple Generals with varying skills.

While Electronic Arts acquired some major licenses in the past few months, two of which are the lucractive Star Wars and mixed-martial arts UFC licenses, players shouldn't hold their breath waiting for a game based on them or Tiger Woods.

In our chat with Victory Games' Tim Morten, we asked why they decided to pursue the Generals fiction in the Command & Conquer universe. They choose it because the fans wanted it, he reveals.

It also proved the "most successful" commercially, beating Tiberian and Red Alert. It "felt like the right choice" with both of those factors rooting for it, but what about going free-to-play?
