Deep Silver: "Family" trailer didn't sell Dead Island, co-op did

The somewhat controversial, heavily emotional "Family" trailer for Dead Island caused a great deal of reaction and discussion when the video was released, but according to Deep Silver executive producer Guido Eickmeyer, it ultimately did not help the game garner 4M sales across three platforms.

Instead, he states, it was the co-op gameplay.

For its fourth consecutive week, Traveller's Tales' LEGO Batman 2 has fended off would-be usurpers of the all format chart throne, though sales have dropped 18% more since the week before.

Still a dip in unit sales isn't enough to thwart the plastic Dark Knight. SEGA's London 2012 olympics stays 2nd, and The Amazing Spider-Man is firmly webbed 3rd. Sports and super heroes.

Two weeks ago, the BBFC ratings board outed the Game of the Year Edition of Dead Island, Techland's open world zombie apocalypse RPG. The special edition was officially announced by publisher Deep Silver, which, as expected, will feature the two major DLC packs released for the game.

Could a Dead Island sequel be developed without its creator Techland? According to reports publisher Deep Silver has been shopping a potential Dead Island 2 to other studios.

The publisher has responded saying that they have "neither something in place or in discussion" between parties at this time, nor any "concept or production with external partners."
