Carmack: Doom 4 "done when it's done"
At an interview at QuakeCon 2012, id co-founder John Carmack stated that Doom 4 has no set release date, that it'll get a release date when the developer is ready to release it. Essentially, "done when it's done."

The October 2011 release of Rage has been followed by a whole lot of silence from id Software and Bethesda over what lies ahead, if anything, for the post-apoco shooter.

Design director Matthew Hooper of id Software has sent down a message from high Olympus to mere mortals to discredit those alleged leaked images from Doom 4 - which isn't cancelled.
The studio is still feverishly working on a new hell for us to blast through. When they "officially show things, you'll see awesome." Fans "will be happy" with the game.

A rumor that id Software's next Doom title, Doom 4, had been canceled has been shot down, as Jim Reilly of Game Informer tweeted that Bethesda Softworks told him the game hadn't been axed.

A staff reshuffling is going on at Rage developer id Software to ensure their numbers meet "needs of the studio," say Bethesda. A number of staff has been made redundant.
The Texas-based studio is still "recruiting and hiring qualified developers," with no ongoing projects suffering a setback. Rumours had swirled that shooter DOOM 4 had been binned.
